BlackBerry maker Research in Motion today announced the launch of BlackBerry Mobile Data System (MDS) with a new wireless application development framework that supports Web Services.

BlackBerry MDS Studio is a powerful visual application design and assembly tool that allows developers to quickly create rich-client applications using a component-based drag and drop approach. It makes it easier for corporate developers to develop and deploy line of business applications.

BlackBerry MDS Studio offers the following functionality:

  • Automatically creates prototype applications that developers can easily build on by editing and revising what is automatically generated.
  • Automatically interrogates existing enterprise applications and back-end systems to determine what services are exposed for developers to include in their applications.
  • Provides a rich set of predefined user interface, message and data components that developers can drag and drop to use or customize.
