I was just checking out a really cool BlackBerry application called QuickText which basically breaks down to speed dial for SMS. QuickText is such a neat idea that I think it should, like HTML email just was, eventually be included in the core BlackBerry OS.

As BlackBerry users become younger, the way they use their device is different from us old folks in our mid-thirties. Teenagers and young adults are more prone to sending text messages on their BlackBerrys than they are to even talking on them. To give you an example, my teenage daughter only used 272 minutes during the entire month of July. This included peak and nights and weekend minutes. She, on the other hand, sent and received over 7000 text messages.

This post isn’t really meant to be an endorsement of QuickText because I haven’t tried the application yet. It is, however, an endorsement of the idea of SMS speed dial. QuickText costs $7.50, but, does have a 14-day free trial for you to check out. If you do, come back and tell us what you think.
