from what i've seen, there are no major differences, but i think my berry is now running a little quicker and i think the speaker is much louder. the speed increase is most noticeable while scrolling through photos. haven't come across any bugs yet.

my update went very smoothly. make sure you remove the blackberry internal apps before updating your berry. to remove it on xp, go to start> control panel> add/remove programs> remove "blackBerry internal apps for rim"

if i find any bugs/issues, i'll be sure to report them.

I don't think the firmware is what fixed my trackball problem. I think it is something unrelated. If it was just firmware they would not have swapped my blackberry for a new one.

I purchased a BB tour mid august '09 which did have the trackball issues. I had them replace the unit with a new one which has the 4.7.1.40 OS and but does not have the trackball issues, it works as it should.

The replacement Blackberry Tour that I received, to fix the trackball problem, has this version (4.7.1.42) on it. No idea what the difference is.

Come on RIM jump on the coat tails! It's the only PRO-Consumer thing to do.

Nokia to echo Apple's anti-carrier software stance

""Very clearly Apple, Android... are a whole lot less about providing customization to the operators and a whole lot more about providing a really cool, compelling value proposition to the end-consumer," Nokia research and development VP David Rivas said, holding them up as examples for his company's business model."

JHP2,

I like the Tour, except for the trackball problem which apparently has been fixed in replacement models. I do prefer the Curve's keyboard though with the spacing. Something I think we will see on the new VZW Curve (with rumors of a late November release date).

So, if you can wait until the end of November: wait. If the Curve 2 does come out you should have a better keyboard and WiFi. If not, the Tour is a good unit if you get one that has a working trackball.

All,

Any recommendations on the Tour? I have heard of trackball issues and audio quality issues. However, my Curve on VZW is biting the dust. It is either a Tour or a refurb Curve via insurance replacement. Your thoughts?

PS: Storm is not a good option due to the keyboard.

Was just about to start searching on this. My trackball has gotten to the point that it's very unresponsive. Almost like it's very oily. I clean my hands constantly in an attempt to make sure it doesn't. I have a feeling though that this might be similar to the old mice that used balls instead of lasers.
