you are incorrect (AGAIN) the autonomous GPS is disabled on vzw Blackberrys, and only vzw blackberrys. You should really search to learn the truth before making such poor choices and grandstands.

RIM makes BB’s for just about every service provider. More and more BB’s have
autonomous GPS capabilities but only those branded with vzw are crippled from using autonomous GPS, thats ok? Your tax dollar is paying for the GPS system, you pay RIM for BB devices, you might make the wrong choice and find vzw as your wireless service provider and be paying them for the BB service. While the autonomous GPS functions are available on others devices (not branded with vzw) Customers of other service providers (not verizon) are able to use autonomous GPS without paying for it a second or third time. RIM made the BB’s so you don’t need a thing (software) from the service provider when it comes to autonomous GPS. vzw has done the same thing with other technologies in the past (like bluetooth)

Those of you who excuse vzw’s anti-consumer game of lies, greed, arrogance, and FUD just don’t get it. Yet to try to make yourself feel better you then add in the BS about the mythical “superior coverage and service”. The truth is clear to the rest of us bluehorseshoe that you downgraded from T-Mo to vzw. Your finding the vzw crippling is limiting. Your trying to “get around” the crippling and slowly learning your vzw dream is like your thoughts, full of BS.

The only thing that is ‘limited’ is your mental capacity, and the only thing that is ‘restricted’ is your mental bandwidth. No, VZW did not diable the GPS. Yes, they do charge for ‘threir’ software program. Who the hell doesn’t try to make a dime in this world? If you don’t like it, then don’t use them.

Most people use VZW for their superior coverage and service. First and foremost, it’s a phone. The email, GPS, web browsing, etc. come in at a close second. If people don’t like the fact that VZW locks down certain features, then they shouldn’t be using VZW. But those of us that prefer the solid network and can live without (or with by paying) the extra features, such as GPS, then so be it.

You provide all this anti-VZW crap every single post. I’d really like to know why you’re so hell bent (…maybe that should be your handle?) against them. Did they fire you? Beat you in a law suit? Did the VZW guy come to your house and bitch slap you? I’m not sure what your issue is, but you’ve certainly proved your lack of ability to effectively communicate with the rest of the world.

It’s not wise to try and get around the vzw fat cat crippling without expecting to PAY for it. vzw is always watching it’s flock, and will take action with those like bluehorseshoe who think they can “work around” a blocked function.

I stand corrected if true. I thought they pulled it off the GPS, but my bad. The tower pull actually makes sense considering the miles it’s off. However, I knew they pulled off the data feed when it came to local searches, etc. It’s best to have a plan for that if using frequently on phones other than a BB (free with the BB’s on VZW since the package comes with unlimited access for $29.99).
