What a laughable statement...first, it comes from Microsoft, not exactly an unbiased source.

Second, Microsoft does not specify any hard numbers to back up that claim.

This sentence is hard to beat for comedic effect:
"Robbie Bach, president of Microsoft's entertainment and devices division, did not specify how much market share it has grabbed, but said the business was doing well."

Riiight...

Third, as Robb alludes to, I am sure any such study that does actually back up that claim includes the consumer market. I think we all can be pretty sure that in the general consumer market that MS is gaining market share. Not that the MS Mobile is that great, but they keep throwing devices out there, and in sheer numbers, they've got to be getting some sales. Plus, the Q is a great design, and will alone give MS some market share.

However, in the only market where RIM is really competing right now, the enterprise market, RIM remains firmly entrenched and the one to beat. No major corporations are ditching their BBs for Windows Mobile devices, to be sure.

Now, when RIM releases their more consumer friendly models, then we will have more of a fair comparison of relative product strength in that market.
