It’s Official… iPhone 4 Head To Verizon Feb. 10th

January 11, 2011 by Robb Dunewood 16 Comments

Update:  We just heard via a Verizon spokesperson that the Verizon iPhone will not come in white…

This should come as no secret to those that read blogs about cell phones…  Verizon has officially announced the iPhone 4 and that it will be available starting Feb. 10th.  The Verizon iPhone 4 will come in both white and black, starts at $199.99 for the 16 GB model, and, unlike AT&T, will support Wi-Fi tethering.

A lot of Verizon BlackBerry users have been saying that they are going to switch to the iPhone as soon as it comes out.  Now that it is here are you sticking to your guns and making the move?

Man you should add a voting poll to this post. I can say I wish this was LTE but the biggest impact on RIM will be as user contracts come up. I received dozens of emails from friends saying they are going to pre-order on Feb 3rd

I had the Blackberry Storm and was up for renewal at the end of December. My storm was performing so slow and I had to do a battery pull three times a day, if not more. I decided right before Christmas to switch to the Droid X, which I like. However, I had a gut feeling the iphone was right around the corner, and now I’m not sure whether to switch to the iphone or keep the Droid X. I am very disappointed in the fact that Verizon did not have a new touchscreen Blackberry for the holiday season, as they had the past two years. It seems like RIM focused on devices for other carriers and left touchscreen Blackberry Users out in the cold.

I’m betting a lot of non-corporate, Verizon BB users will be getting this. This is the beginning of the end of any hope RIM had in the consumer market.

Hey Robb, just an FYI, the AT&T iPhone 4 model does provide tethering, just doesn’t provide a hot spot for 5 devices like the Verizon version.

My BB Bold is going to on eBay come 2/3.

Man I have had at least 30 emails from BB users saying they are switching to the iPhone 4. I have to admit Hotspot show VZW is not concerned about the network impact.

I may just switch and use my Torch on AT&T and my iPhone on Verizon. Not getting rid of the BB just yet, but it’s damn close.

You know you can’t of course “switch” an existing iPhone to Verizon. You have to buy a new one.

Obviously. The switch was referring to the iPhone to Torch on AT&T. I mentioned above in an earlier post that I would be purchasing an iPhone with VZW.

When the iPhone was first announced, 6 mths before its release, I was very intrigued; I decided to pass primarily because of my experiences with the Cingular ,then AT&T network.

RIM has had over 3 years to offer a viable alternative; and they blew it big time!

For me, if the data plan is ok, its bye, bye Blackberry.

You can argue Verizon does little to promote BlackBerry. But then again, BlackBerry has nothing to compete FOR them to promote! 3 year old hardware. Would people be excited if Verizon announced today they were launching a CDMA version of the iPhone 3G? No. BUT, that’s the generation hardware RIM is still pushing out.

I honestly think in the long run it would have been FAR better had RIM not jumped into the tablet arena. Honestly, tablet (PlayBook) sales will NEVER be what smartphone sales are now, and they’ve sacrificed nearly 2 years of developing phones (scrapped numerous models we knew about and who knows how many others were dumped?) at the altar of trying to go up against iPad and whatever Honeycomb Android tablets we see. RIM should have seen it wasn’t in their core business philosophy to move at the speed with which Apple and Android are moving, and just stayed away. PlayBook is going to have a very tough time standing out in a VERY crowded tablet market. There will soon be more tablets on display at your local Best Buy than there are laptops now, and while my positive perception of BlackBerry would draw me to take a look, most consumers don’t have that perception of BlackBerry and are going to not give it a second look and move on to what’s flashy and magical…

It’s not too late. They could probably save face and say “We screwed up, we shouldn’t have got in the tablet market, we should have stayed focused on our core success, secure and optimized efficiency smartphones”. Get the phones out NOW that we KNOW are sitting on the recently abandoned shelf, and get to work bring a QNX-based OS to a smartphone.

No Way Jose!!! I’m keeping my 3 year old Blackberry Storm 9530 until a new improved Blackberry Storm 4 or maybe Storm with QNX.

      1. The VZW iPhone version corrects the antenna issue.
      2. Not sure where you get the battery drain issue. iPhone 4 battery is one of the best I’ve dealt with, along with the 9700.

I have the original storm and my contract was up in Nov. The storm battery needs to be replaced and I broke one key. so I will pre order the Iphone on Feb 3. Really liked the storm after they fixed the problems but no new storm so now Apple.

i believe in 2 things and those explain why its too late for RIM
1- the world market & the international consumer usually follows what they see on tv , movies and ads in general everything around them that says cool, and cool is america to everyone followed closely by europe. 2-3 years ago the bb was everywhere in the states and europe from tv shows, soaps to movies … the international market noticed it and bb became a thing of status as it is now in a lot of 3rd world countries but the tides will soon change.
2- RIM should learn from palm, they r on the same path as the one palm took 8 years ago ; even if consumers “who flow like water” notice what an amazing gadget and OS RIM has came up with, they wont bother to check it out , they r now caught up with something different , case in hand the palm pre and web os.
palm pre and web os failed to generate buzz and consumer concern and still fail to even thou web os blows BB OS out of the water.
consumers look at palm as the past and a failed company, and that is how ppl will view RIM if something big does not come out of there headquarters soon.
