Is cutting mobile service in New York City tunnels the right answer?

Wireless service in the four tunnels leading into Manhattan has been cut by authorities in response to the London terrorist bombings.  This of course, means no cell phone and no BlackBerry on your trips to and from the Big Apple.

The reasoning was because terrorists have used wireless devices as remote triggers for bombs before.  This method was used in the terror attacks in Madrid, Spain last year that killed 191 people. 

Many question the decisions to cut Wireless service.  New York Mayor, Michael Bloomberg said he doesn’t know if disabling service ‘makes sense’ and that ‘Cell Phones provide a level of comfort’.  One of the major side effects is the inability for motorist to dial 911 in case of emergency.
