If you happen to work in one of the aforementioned places, this IS mutually exclusive. That is my point.....

I could definitely see this happening if RIM were to create separate divisions for consumers and corporate clients.... which could be the case given their recent update to www.rim.com

Liam,

Why can't I have a polished product with a camera, memory card slots, and an MP3 player? I don't believe these things to be mutually exclusive.

Thats EXACTLY what differentiates the two companies....

RIM has no intention of being Everything to Everyone, but rather a Far more Polished product to a much more narrow audience...

If you want a camera, and Memory card slots, and MP3 players, go buy a phone that runs Windows Mobile... But be prepared for half assed email implementation, pathetic security, and the need to reboot it daily due to a bloated inefficient OS....

The problem with catering just to corporate customers is that Microsoft isn't just going after every business user with a phone. They are going after everyone with a phone.

The VAST majority of RIM's customer's work in corporate settings, many of which do not allow and kind of camera devices to go in or out of the work place (IE/ U.S Department of Defense, IBM, U.S. Congress... need i continue??

I agree that a consumer model would be beneficial to service their end user/non corporate clients, however this is not their primary concern.

Doug, I couldn't agree with you more. What really gets me are those BlackBerry Addicts, or traditionalists if you will, that flat out tell me that I am no true BlackBerry lover if I really want these "trivial addons that will cheapon the BlackBerry and bring it down to standards of the BlackBerry want-to-bes."

What I hope that RIM understands is that they will have to stay in line with there competion. Eventually they will have to offer these "trivial features" becasue consumers want them or they will lose their place on top of the Smartphone hill.

RIM is running with blinders on. They are going to loose ground to Microsoft if they don't add some of the bells and whistles. Microsoft wont hesitate to add every bell and whistle just to grab market share. Please RIM, don't become the next Netscape.
