Gmail For Mobile Devices Now Available

November 2, 2006 by Robb Dunewood 12 Comments

Google today announced Gmail for Mobile which just happens to be a free download for your BlackBerry or other java enabled mobile device.

If you have a Gmail account and a BlackBerry, I have two words for you.

Download it!

You would not believe the number of times that I have been asked how to set up someones BlackBerry to get their Gmail mail.

I have only been playing with Gmail for Mobile on my BlackBerry for about 3 minutes and 43 seconds, but, so far, I haven’t come across anything I don’t like. Once I log a little more time with Gmail for Mobile I will put up a full review.

Anyone else getting errors after installing it. I am using a 7100T with the 4.0 or whatever the latest OS is and when i first clicked teh icon i was getting those Exception errors. Then after four tries I got to the login screen, another exception when i logged in, then to an empty inbox and then when i refresh i get another error…

    ughh…why release an unstable product!!

This is the best thing to happen to the Blackberry for Google users since Gtalk. Now if they could only make it “push” based.

I would like it if you could send email from your BlackBerry Address book as well as your Gmail address book. I am willing to bet that there are quite a few Gmail users who use ther pop client to send and receive mail and have their contacts stored in their email client.

Werl, For me gmail for mobile is very useful because I track multiple gmail accounts on my BB with BIS and a year ago one of the accounts just stopped syncing to my BB. I updated BIS from version 1 to version 2, changed BB devices, deleted and readded the account from BIS, turned off the POP3 on the gmail account and reneabled it. With all this my other two gmail accounts worked and continue to work fine, but this one never updated again. Now with the gmail for mobile applkication, I can finally have access to that third gmail account again. I know this isn’t the best justification for using gmail for mobile but I’m whole again after a year hiatus.

I have tried it and I can tell you that it’s great, fast and cool looking, but I need app that can connect to multiple mail account’s by POP, IMAP or Webmail so it`s much more easier to use Movamail http://movamail.com/

The only thing I don’t like is the lack of ability to apply a label to a message, which I typically do before archiving it.
