Free BlackBerry Game: Lingo

by Robb Dunewood on February 8, 2008 · 49 comments

We are all about free BlackBerry games here at RIMarkable and although the mobile.blackberry.com doesn’t list all the free games that they used to, the occasionally put a good one out their that can showcase what the BlackBerry can do.

The latest free BlackBerry game on the BlackBerry help site is Lingo. Yes, it is indeed that game show version of Lingo. As a matter of fact, the Game Show Network actually is the publisher of this game.

If you are in to word puzzle type games, I definitely recommend that you give Lingo a whirl. Just point your BlackBerrys browser to mobile.BlackBerry.com and browse to the games section. You surely can’t beat the price…

mobile.blackberry.com –> Games –> Free Games

I just downloaded it.

I wonder if you have to have a specific device or OS. I have a BlackBerry Pearl 8130.

I have an 8703e and it’s not showing up under free games for me.

I see it. 8130 on Verizon. Could it be that Verizon customers are getting something free that others aren’t… ;)

“RIM support account manager Bryan Simpson affirmed that a “critical severity outage” had taken place. The message went on to say that it was acting as an “emergency notification regarding the current BlackBerry Infrastructure outage,” that was (is) affecting enterprise subscribers and “users of the Americas network.” So much for that “won’t happen again” line, huh?”

“A “critical severity outage,” related to infrastructure problems. The outage reportedly affected enterprise clients and users of RIM’s Americas network.” Sure seems consumers better wake up and learn that RIM’s network is not mission critical. RIM’s constant problematic infrastructure show that relying completely on RIM to serve data is not the right way forward for data service reliability.

The solution is simple:

I’m with Sharon (#13)! I had it on my Blackberry 8300 but had a glitch on my phone and had to get it replaced through my service provider. When I went to download Lingo again, it was gone. I check every day hoping it will return. I’d gladly pay for it. Where is Lingo???

Apparently the company that owns the rights to this game has rescinded distribution rights for the game, at least to one Online Gaming Community. Perhaps they did the same to blackberry.

(seen here)
http://www.gsn.com/lingo/

and I quote from GSN.com’s note on that page

” We are very sorry to announce that the online Lingo games are no longer available on GSN.com. Unfortunately, the company that licenses Lingo is no longer extending GSN rights to the online versions of the game”

I downloaded it but it’s all screwed up. The screen is shift over to the right and you can’t use the mulitap so putting in the any second letter (if you have the pearl) is impossible. Any thoughts?

I’m getting close! I got it downloaded onto my Blackberry 8300 but it’s only on part of the screen and won’t let me play. I’m assuming it’s the version for the 8100. Any ideas for getting the version for my 8300? Thanks for any suggestions!

Wonder if there’s a version compatible with the Bold? Tried the 83xx/88xx version… The game sits in the upper left corner of the screen. Keypad still works fine though
