Free Downloads

Remember a few weeks ago when we talked about E*TRADE Mobile Pro, the first mobile E*TRADE application exclusively for the BlackBerry? Well, E*TRADE Mobile Pro has been released and is now available for download.

I haven’t had the chance to fully put E*TRADE Mobile Pro through the paces, however, from what I’ve seen so far it is a pretty solid little application and you can do a heck of a lot more in it than you can on the E*TRADE mobile site.

I am going to go out on a limb here and just say that if you have an E*TRADE account and a BlackBerry, you should just download E*TRADE Mobile Pro, which you can do so for free simply by pointing your BlackBerry Browsers to etrade.com/mobile.

Our friends over at ten23.com have just released a new location-based social networking applications for the BlackBerry called SpotJots that you absolutely cannot beat the price on.

BlackBerry users can use our SpotJots mobile application to capture notes, photos, video & voice notes and upload them their SpotJots account in real-time. It’s a great tool for life recording, especially since it also stamps each jot with the location where the it was created (users with GPS-equipped BlackBerries will find this especially handy). At your discretion, every time you jot your friends will be notified, and they can see what you’re doing and where you’re doing it. Don’t want to use it for life recording? Not a problem… it can also be used as a personal media manager for backing up data from the device, or as a personal notes recording service. Whatever the application, SpotJots Mobile provides an easy to use interface for managing and sharing your geotagged media.

I haven’t had the chance to download SpotJots and put it through the paces yet so I figured that I would just post a link for SpotJots here and let you check it out for yourself. You can download it OTA directly to your BlackBerry.

If you decide to give SpotJots a go, come back and leave a comment letting us know what you think.

I would venture to bet that Research in Motion will be launching BlackBerry Media Sync, the free utility that will allow you to sync your non-DRM protected iTunes media to your BlackBerry, very soon, seeing how it is available for download online.

I am not sure how official this is, however, you can download BlackBerry Media Sync from http://download-mustang.rim.edgesuite.net/autoupdates/MediaSync/108_120608/BlackBerryMediaSyncDM.exe. RIM is hosting BlackBerry Media Sync on Akamai’s Edgesuite servers for rapid deployment.

Believe it or not, I had a post half written titled “Whatever happened to Project Tango” but it looks like there is no need to finish it as we’ve just received an email letting us know that Viigo Beta has just gone public and we are downloading it to our BlackBerry Pearl as we write this post.

Urggghhh… It requires a reboot.

Now that my BlackBerry is back up, I have to say that I am fairly impressed. Project Tango is looking pretty good. It is a beta and some things, Audio & Podcasts, Travel, Local Interests, and Stocks and Finance, aren’t yet available, however, some of the things that are there are pretty cool.

We will put the beta through the paces and come back and tell you what we really feel, but, in the mean time, download Viigo Beta for yourself and tell us if you like it. It is free and can be downloaded OTA from http://getviigo.com/beta.

RIMarkable reader Curtis just sent us an email this morning telling us about a free BlackBerry application that gives you pretty good local search capabilities that rival Beyond 411, one of my top free BlackBerry downloads of all time.

He said, “There is a application that you might want to mention to your readers that I just picked up on. It is called Poynt for BlackBerry and is a free local search utility that rivals Beyond 411. Poynt pretty much gives you the same information but is a lot prettier.”

One thing that I know RIMarkable readers like are free BlackBerry applications so I figure that I would spread the word. I’ve only been playing with Poynt for about 45 seconds so I can’t give it a full review just yet. I can confirm, however, it is nice looking.

You can check it out by downloading it OTA directly to your BlackBerry. Just visit m.mypoynt.com via your devices BlackBerry browser. Let us know what you think in the comments.

We got a bit of an early preview of a press release that is going out tomorrow morning about a free Text Message and IM archiving solution from Dexrex.

We’ve posted the entire press release after the jump, however, to make a long story short, Dexrex for BlackBerry automatically archives text (SMS) messages sent your BlackBerry. If you aren’t discipline enough to email all of your text messages to yourself, managing them can be an absolute chore.

With text-messaging becoming more and more commonly used for business communication I can see where a service such as Dexrex for BlackBerry could come in handy. We are going to put Dexrex through the paces and will come back and give a proper review.

We talked about E*Trade Mobile Pro the other day and it was requested that we post this video.

The E*Trade Baby is simply hilarious…

BlackBerry maker, Research in Motion has released a free BlackBerry application that allows BlackBerry users to upload photos directly from their BlackBerry to their Flickr accounts. The free BlackBerry download is cleverly named Flickr for BlackBerry Smartphones.

I just downloaded Flickr for BlackBerry Smartphones onto my 8130 and I have to admit the the app is pretty slick. You have to the ability to upload pictures to the proper album, tag your pictures, resize them, and even geotag your pictures if your BlackBerry is equipped with GPS.

I am going to go out on a limb and say that if you have a BlackBerry with a camera on it and a Flickr account, you should just download Flickr for BlackBerry Smartphones. You can do so OTA and you can’t beat the price.

E-Trade aims to make it much easier to trade and manage your portfolio from your BlackBerry. Earlier today they announced E-Trade Mobile Pro exclusively for the BlackBerry.

Although you’ve been able to access E-Trade’s mobile site from your BlackBerry in the past, E-Trade Mobile Pro is the first mobile application from a major U.S. brokerage that will allow users to get real-time stock quotes, cash transfers, and allow you to make trades directly from your BlackBerry.

According to the New York Times, a fully functional beta of E-Trade Mobile Pro is supposed to come out Thursday. It will run on any of the newer model BlackBerry devices that at least start with the number 8.

You can sign up to be immediately notified of the release of E-Trade Mobile Pro here and you can view a demonstration of the application here.
