Post image for Slacker Offering Free BlackBerry Curves On All Carriers

You read the title correctly…  Slacker, you know, the company that makes the really cool internet radio app for the BlackBerry, is offering free BlackBerry Curve 83xx devices on all 4 major U.S. carriers.  What is better more is that, less signing up to a new 2-year activation with whichever carrier you decide to go with, there are no strings attached.

Just the other day we saw a news article about how Australia based mobile telecom Telstra will offer the BlackBerry Bold for free. Now Telstra has a press release that, not only, tells you that they will offer the Bold for 0$, but, that the device will be available before the end of next month.

Telstra will be offering the new BlackBerry Bold smartphone for $0 upfront to business customers from the 25th August 2008 and customers can register their interest from today via our website or by calling 1800BUSINESS.

What is the best way to compete with a $199 iPhone 3G? Completely subsidize the price of your device with a qualifying data plan. This is exactly what Australia based Telstra is doing with the BlackBerry Bold.

Telstra will offer the BlackBerry Bold for 0$ with a qualifying plan to business customers sometime in late September. Complete details aren’t yet available, however, a Telstra spokesperson said that data and pricing plans will be revealed in a few days.

You can always tell when a new model BlackBerry is about to hit the street because the prices get slashed on older models. That being said, the BlackBerry Bold must be just around the corner because you can find the BlackBerry Curve for free from many online retailers.

If you are a fan of Verizon’s network you can get yourself a BlackBerry Curve 8330 from Wirefly with a new Verizon Wireless account. The nice thing about this deal is that the rebate is instant. You don’t have to mail anything in. All you have to do is sign a 2 year minimum contract and your good to go.

LetsTalk.com is offering a similar deal on the BlackBerry Curve 8310 on AT&T, however, you do have shell out $75 up front and wait to receive $75 rebate in the mail.

One of the more popular BlackBerry downloads out there is Facebook for BlackBerry Smartphones, which I believe has been downloaded several million times. As popular as Facebook for BlackBerry is, it was not without it intricacies.

The word “is” was hard coded into the status screen so whenever you wanted to change your status, the word “is” was always included after your name. Needless to say this annoyed all but 14 of the BlackBerry users that downloaded Facebook for BlackBerry.

To the 14 Facebook for BlackBerry using folks that actually like the hard coded “is” in the status screen, you can stop reading here. For everyone else, we are happy to report that the latest version of Facebook for BlackBerry comes without the hard coded “is”.

You can download the latest version of Facebook for BlackBerry OTA directly to your device right from the Mobile BlackBerry Home Page by visiting http://mobile.blackberry.com from your device’s BlackBerry Browser.
