So, you are probably thinking to yourself, “can’t you already get your Gmail pushed to your BlackBerry for free?” The answer is yes, however, the argument could be made that getting email on your BlackBerry via BIS is really not free because you pay a service charge for you BlackBerry every month.

emoze, on the other hand, is now offering push Gmail to just about every mobile handset and they are claiming that it is completely free. All you have to do is download the emoze client directly to your mobile device by visiting mobile.emoze.com from your handheld’s browser, or via a web-based wizard at www.emoze.com.

I would argue that emoze isn’t really free either unless wireless carriers have started offering free data plans. To make a long story short, if you don’t have a BlackBerry but would still like to get BlackBerry-like push based email on your mobile phone from your Gmail account, you’re in luck.

The FCC has just issued a $100,000 fine against Amp’d Mobile, the “pay as you go” MVNO aimed at the young adult market, for failing to protect consumers’ personal calling records from thieves.

Amp’d, who buys excess bandwidth on Verizon’s network is, is known to have phones and service that are “Cool as $#!+”. Looks like their protection of customer information is unsecure as $#!+ too.

I didn’t become completely addicted to my BlackBerry until the 7100T came out. In fact, I carried a BlackBerry and a cell phone before I got the first SureType device. I like mobile devices that don’t look like scientific calculators and I have to admit, I really like the design of the Helio Ocean.

Some folks may think that it is kind of bulky, however, I am currently rocking a BlackBerry 7130e which is 0.9 inches thick and the Helio Ocean is only 0.86 inches think and has a full QWERTY keyboard.

Don’t get me wrong. I am not saying that I am swapping out my BlackBerry for a Helio. I am just saying that if RIM ever starts making devices that look like this, I will be first in line to get one.

Remember a week or so ago, we talked about the second round showdown of emoze and BlackBerry happening at CTIA? Well, yesterday was the day and emoze, as expected, won again.

As Steve St. Pierre puts it best, “nobody cares.” I don’t want to rewrite the same stuff that I wrote the last time emoze beat the BlackBerry, however, emoze’s offering, although “faster” than the BlackBerry, is quite poor in my opinion. Just take a look at the comments from the last post…

CNBC is reporting that a major Palm shareholder, who did not want to be identified or his stake disclosed, is expecting Motorola to acquire Palm for about $2 billion.

“They (Palm) generate a lot of cash,” the shareholder added. “Paying $2 billion in cash for a company generating $120 million in free cash flow is not a stretch. They could pay up to $25 a share and the deal would still be accretive. Accretive immediately.”

We heard a couple of days ago that Palm might be ready to sell. It was believed, however that Nokia, not Motorola had the inside track.

I was just reading an article over on the Washington Post that asks the question, “Why would Google want a phone?” The piece almost makes it seem like it is a mistake for Google to move into the already crowded mobile phone industry.

Commentaries have been mostly about rumors, and they lack a good motive for such a move. Google makes software, not hardware, and rumors that it was developing a PC a few years back turned out to be wrong–it was simply making software for PCs.

I decided to answer the question here and to make a long story short, Google wants a phone simply because it allows them to move from being the middle-man in the content delivery system to just being the man.

When you think about it, Google supplies the content in the case of YouTube for millions of people watching videos and provides the mechanism, Google’s index, to find almost all other content. They are the the gate keeper between the content you want and the device that you get it on. If Google builds the content delivery system and makes it cheap, well, that is the Golden Goose.

Taiwanese computer manufacturer Acer has decided to get into the smartphone game and has its sights squarely aimed at Research in Motion’s BlackBerry.

At what point will these companies understand that you can’t keep doing the same thing expecting to get a different result? Mark my words. Unless MS completely rewrites Windows Mobile from the ground up, no Windows Mobile powered smartphone will ever compete with the BlackBerry.

I guess Acer thinks that they will get lucky.
