Cingular Wireless has been awarded a five year, $8 million dollar contract by the City of Houston to provide over 1600 BlackBerry handhelds and EDGE-enabled PC modem cards.
The new deal comes in addition to continued voice service for more than 3,800 wireless phones that Cingular retains from previous agreements with the city. The 5 year deal represents 80% of the City of Houston’s wireless budget for the same time period.
