BlackBerry Storm3 9570 Still Found In Best Buy POS

December 7, 2010 by Robb Dunewood 1 Comment

The last tidbit that we heard about the BlackBerry Storm3 9570 was that it was cancelled by Research in Motion because it was just too close in in form and function to the BlackBerry Storm2 9550.  Seeing how the Storm 9570 is still found in Best Buy’s order system months later, one has to wonder if the cancellation rumor is false, or, if Best Buy is just extremely slow at cleaning up their internal systems.

Rumor: BlackBerry PlayBook Slated For A February Launch

November 10, 2010 by Robb Dunewood Leave a Comment

According to Jay Alvi, executive vice president of Enterprise Services at Telecommunication Services of Trinidad & Tobago (TSTT), the BlackBerry PlayBook is slated to be released in February of 2011.  There have been rumors floating around that we would see the PlayBook in Q1 of next year, and, this tidbit out of TSTT lines up, but, with only 60,000 BlackBerry users on their network, we are going to leave the February 2011 BlackBerry PlayBook launch in the rumor category.

TmoNews has come across an internal presentation from T-Mobile with a slide showing an estimated November 17th release date for the BlackBerry Bold 9780.   The Bold 9780 is basically a refresh of the the BlackBerry Bold 9700 and sports a fast 624 MHz process, 512 MB of memory, and a 5 megapixel camera with an LED flash, autofocus, and a digital zoom.  This device will also run BlackBerry 6 out of the box.

Rumor: Amazon MP3 For BlackBerry App Mentioned In Leaked RIM Document

October 15, 2010 by Robb Dunewood Leave a Comment

The Amazon MP3 for BlackBerry app, previously rumored to be announced at DevCon 2010, is mentioned in the recently leaked BlackBerry Enterprise Server 5 SP3 release notes suggesting that the application is near release.  We don’t know much about Amazon’s MP3 for BlackBerry app but it could be a viable “iTunes Store of sorts” for BlackBerry users.

RIM’s BES 5.0.3 release notes call Amazon MP3 for BlackBerry a “RIM Value Added Application,” and the document specifies that BlackBerry administrators will be able to disable the app via BES. The release notes also mention that Amazon MP3 for BlackBerry will work on RIM smartphones running BlackBerry OS 5.0 or higher, so it won’t be restricted to RIM’s latest OS, BlackBerry 6.

Rumor: BlackBerry Storm3 Coming Late Novemeber

October 14, 2010 by Robb Dunewood 25 Comments

According to note from analysis firm Jefferies & Co., the BlackBerry Storm3, not the BlackBerry Storm2 9570 refresh that was cancelled, but the real Blackberry Storm3,  should hit a wireless carrier near you by the end of Novemeber.  The note states that the BlackBerry Storm3 will run BlackBerry 6 and will not have the “clickity click” haptic touch screen.  (It will be like the screen on the iPhone and the BlackBerry Torch)

Has Verizon Cancelled The BlackBerry Storm 3 9570?

October 1, 2010 by Robb Dunewood 26 Comments

There is an interesting report coming from Endgadget stating that the BlackBerry Storm3 9570 has been cancelled.

It could still launch somewhere, but it won’t be on Verizon, apparently — and considering that it was shaping up to be an ever-so-slightly-retuned Storm2, we can’t say we blame them.

There has been a lot of speculation that the BlackBerry Storm 9570 wasn’t going to be called the Storm3, but, be a refreshed version of the BlackBerry Storm2. Whatever the name, it looks like the device has been cancelled…

This will be an issue for more Verizon BlackBerry users than you think…

RIM Not Announcing BlackBerry Tablet At Devcon Today

September 27, 2010 by Robb Dunewood 3 Comments

I initially heard on Squawk Box this morning that the BlackBerry Tablet may not be introduced at BlackBerry Devcon today, and, it would appear, that BGR has confirmed this.   According to BGR’s source, Mike Lazaridis will focus on the next generation tablet OS platform, however, won’t focus on any hardware.  “It would be unlikely for RIM to announce the mysterious tablet device during a developer event…”

Research in Motion trademarks “SurfBook”… Presumably for the rumored BlackBerry Tablet

September 20, 2010 by Robb Dunewood 2 Comments

For those of you that didn’t know, Research in Motion is rumored to be working on a BlackBerry Tablet.  Details on the device have been sketchy thus far but RIM has snatched the domain name BlackPad.com.  We just learned today that RIM has also recently filed a trademark application for the term SurfBook.  Personally, I like SurfBook a little better… It clearly tells you what the device does and it doesn’t immediately make you think that it is RIM’s version of the iPad.
