BlackBerry Storm OS 4.7.0.114 Found Online

by Robb Dunewood on March 10, 2009 · 9 comments

BlackBerry OS 4.7.0.114 for the BlackBerry Storm has made its way online.  Like the previous 8 or 9 leaked OSs for the Storm .114 is unofficial.  I am probably going to hold off on this update unless it is reported that there are significant functionality enhancements and / or increases to stability.  I personally haven’t seen all that many differences in the last two or three OS leaks.

Update: I hear that there are issues with 4.7.0.114 so I’ve removed the link…

Radical improvement to text selection makes it worth a try.

Accelerometer seems to have taken a hit. No number pad in call, which is terrible if you have to “dial 1 to reach Mary” or something like that (can be fixed by replacing files though). Some have said there is a speed increase, others haven’t seen it.

the text selection is pretty nice, and scrolling seems to be a bit quicker, fixed the number selection in call by adjusting the default potrait menu to multi-tap. screen lock function works well, backlight does not activate if screen is clicked in pocket or holster. but after 16 hours with the 114 my bb menu key suddenly is disabled (will not work on browser or any area of the phone, in any view) and im experiencing some hefty battery drain, repeated battery pulls does not fix this problem. the accelerometer does show a noticeable lag. the browser does not show enough improvements on speed to make the leap to 114 in my opinion. im not sure if its just an issue with my device, but im pulling back to a previous OS.

I had 114 briefly, but the bugs and irritations outweighed the few benefits (new text selection, etc). So, I went back to 109.

As for the no number pad during Call:
If you swipe your finger up on the screen it brings the number pad back up.
Swiping down will minimize it again.
Takes a little getting used to. As do a lot of the features of the Storm.
