November 30, 2006 by Robb Dunewood 8 Comments

The Cingular BlackBerry Pearl is now up on Cingular’s website. You can check it out here. The device is regularly $399.99, however, only $249.99 with a two-year contract and comes with a $50 mail-in rebate lowering the two-year contract price to $199.99.

LMAO – so far this morning, one Cingular store says it will be February of 2007 and another says it will be before Christmas when they actually have Pearls in the store. The third one said she thinks she’s getting some this afternoon and will call me. No reason to educate your employees on the product line, Cingular!!!

I just went on a wild goose chase in Manhattan.Went to
the 8th St and Broadway store. Asked if they had the Blackberry 8100 in stock. Thesalesman looked at me like I was speaking Chinese. When I then said
“The Pearl” he said they didn’t have it. When I asked when, he said
    about a week.

So I went to the Times Sq store. As I walked up, I
admired the HUGE digital billboard above the store touting the new
Pearl from Cingular. Thought this was a good sign.

Asked the sales guy when I walked in if they had it. His reply was “We have one on display, but none in stock.” When I asked when he said “They are
supposed to be in today”. How exactly is that helpful?I am really
considering NOT switching from Verizon to Cingular just from this
    experience.

Just spoke with Cingular about my “Pre-Launch” order and the Pearls are on backorder until sometime next week. And that was an estimate – not a solid date.

I also went on a wild goose chase in Philadelphia and the sales reps are saying they won’t have anything until next week and even then it’ll be a tough find. What a crock!

I called business care and premier and was told that they are shipping 5000 a week for the next few weeks but that every one of their warehouses is empty right now fulfilling the orders that came in for the 11 hours they were mistakenly online Wednesday. She managed to check store stock and tell me there were 3 at the Scarsdale store. After calling to confirm and sweet-talking the sales guy, I managed to get what was apparently the last one in the tristate region (not sure how true that is). Either way, good luck to you all – it’s a great phone so far and infinitely superior to the brick-sized Treo I’ve been carrying for a year.
