Eric,

I was thinking the exact same thing and even wrote a post questioning why RIM would announce the the release date of the BlackBerry 8703e the same day as they start selling the Pearl.

Is it just me, or did the release of the BlackBerry Pearl seem kind of lackluster? When the 8700c came out, there were launch parties and everything. It seems like the Pearl just kind of sneaked out and RIM even made another major announcement about the 8703e.
