BlackBerry App World Makeover

I was browsing around BlackBerry App World earlier today and noticed that it has undergone a bit of a website makeover.  I haven’t noticed any new functionality or anything, but, I do like the new look and feel.

iPass Global Mobile Workforce Report

With all of the trouble Research in Motion has been going through over the last two years, the one area that the company has been able to hang their hat was in the corporate mobile workforce.   The latest iPass Global Mobile Workforce Report , however, shows that the BlackBerry no longer reigns as the top smartphone used by business users and that the iPhone is now king of the hill.

Post image for RIM issues statement on Adobe’s decision to stop developing Flash for the mobile web

Adobe Systems yesterday announced that it will no longer develop Flash for the mobile web instead focusing on HTML 5 and porting Flash Apps to stand-alone Adobe AIR mobile apps.

One of the big differentiators of the BlackBerry PlayBook from the iPad is its full support of Adobe Flash, so, after yesterday’s Adobe announcement, RIM, issued this statement…

BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 delayed until February

It turns out that the rumor that BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 was delayed until February true, and, as has been the case lately with RIM, the reality for RIM turns out to be worse than the rumor.  Not only is BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 not coming out until Feb., it will not include native BBM support.

BlackBerry DevCon 2011

BlackBerry DevCon, Research in Motion’s biggest developer conference of the year, kicks off today, October 18th, in San Francisco.  One of the big announcements at DevCon will be BBX, the next-generation, QNX based BlackBerry operating system that RIM co-CEO, Jim Balsillie, said will leapfrog the competition.  DevCon Starts at 8:30 a.m. PST so we expect a bunch of press releases to start coming out at any time.

Research in Motion

Last week Research in Motion suffered the biggest BlackBerry outage in company history which affected most of Earth for the better part of 3 days.  To show it’s appreciation for their patience, RIM is offering over $100 in premium BlackBerry software to BlackBerry users for free.  Starting Wednesday,  users will be able to download the following list of BlackBerry app from BlackBerry App World, which, will become available for download over the next 4 weeks.

Alec Saunders

Research in Motion made it public today that it has named Alec Saunders their new VP of Developer Relations and Ecosystem Development.  Mr. Saunders was interviewed over on the Inside BlackBerry Developers blog which you can read here.  He had this to say on his own blog

Over the last few days I’ve been in San Francisco at the Mobilize conference, and speaking with developers.   It’s clear from those conversations that the primary problem we face is lack of support from application developers.  My team’s job is to correct that – to win the hearts and minds of mobile developers again.

We certainly hope that Alec Saunders and his team succeed…
