BlackBerry App World Gets Updated To Correct Connectivity Issues

April 3, 2009 by Robb Dunewood 28 Comments

app-world-error-message

As many of you already know, Research in Motion launched BlackBerry App World (think Apple App Store) earlier this week, however, many BlackBerry users couldn’t get the darn thing to load on their device.  Even though they had devices that met the requirements for App World, they kept getting an error message that said,

“Sorry, your device does not meet the system requirements that are needed to support BlackBerry App World.”

Fortunately RIM has addressed this issue quickly, releasing an update that corrects the problem.  If you tried to install BlackBerry App World unsuccessfully when it first came out you might want to give it another go.

You can get BlackBerry App World by visiting http://www.blackberry.com/appworld

Randy, I don’t know if App World will work over a Wi-Fi connection only, however, RIM released a second update to App World over the weekend that may correct your issue if it does.

I too could not load it on my 8320 with wi fi. Under system requirements it says you must have a “data plan” . This sucks. What’s the difference? An internet connection is a connection? Are you making less money on the apps because I don’t have a data plan? Cmon’.

I have a 8900 curve with above 4.2 platform, and blackberry browser and everything and it still says my device does support the needed system requirements. I am web developer in the UK and need to get this working for my job which is pretty embarrassing being a web developer and not able to figure out how to fix it. BOOO! BLACKBERRYS!

I purchased this Blackberry 8900 only 3 weeks ago, updated to 4.2 platform and still I cannot load the Blackberry apps program. Are there any updates to the updates at t his point?

I have no problem connecting with Wi-Fi but refuse to purchase a DataPlan since I already pay for wireless.

Same issue, same hardware. Shite ! I can’t even use a SIM from my iPhone to get it to work. Craptaculous.

Ok, I updated to the Data Plan with T Mobile since I heard that it was mandatory for the Blackberry App World to work.

No go. I kept the data plan on the phone for several days and rebooted, verified, etc and still each time I tried I got the same error message.

I canceled the Data Plan since I did not need it.

    Blackberry needs to correct this.

I turned off wifi so I could download Appworld and when I try to download it wifi off it says “this is a Wi-Fi service. Please ensure you device has an active Wi-Fi connection and try again.” Heh, woohoo.

Yes coz your default browser is set to use Wifi… open browser click the blackberry button (menu) select options. Goto General properties and change the default browser from Hotspot to whatever you have the other one!.. save it and try again

Ok well I finally talked Sprint into registering the pin so I’m guessing it will work now. *checks it out*

Yup, it’s downloading it right now even with wifi enabled 😛

What a joke that RIM has not fixed this issue. It’s very frustrating. I was able to make this work with my original blackberry but keep getting the same thing as described. It’s been months a still no fix.
