BlackBerry 8820 To Launch The Day After Labor Day

Rumor has it that AT&T will launch the Wi-Fi enabled BlackBerry 8820, next Tuesday, September 4th. That’s about a week and a half before the first launch date that we heard.

Additionally, there is no indication that the GPS functionality in the BlackBerry 8820 will be locked down like previously thought.

I have a dumb question: why would it matter whether or not the WiFi is disabled unless you buy a data plan? What good would it do to have your blackberry with a voice plan and WiFi but no data plan?

Please dont flame me for my tech ignorance.
