AT&T Releases The BlackBerry Pearl 8120

We are still trying to get a few more details on this one, however, according to cNet’s Crave, AT&T, not T-Mobile is the first U.S. based carrier to get the Wi-Fi enabled BlackBerry Curve 8120.

In addition to the the Wi-Fi, the BlackBerry 8120 includes a 2.0 megapixel camera with video recording capabilities and a better web browser. The device will be available today through AT&T business channels starting at $199.99 with a two-year service plan.

    Not sure what you’re talking about regarding cheaper hardware, less power drain…but wifi is quicker and cheaper? No kidding. Thanks for the IT update. Wifi is useless for those if traveling on the highway, on a park bench (outside of NY) or even at a client location if they are locked down and you’re in an area where there’s no network connectivity. I need to tether. 3G is needed for those like myself so I’m not slowed down. Go try tethering with Edge…

    I could care less if it’s GSM, CDMA, HSPDA, LTE, WiMax, OPP (yeah, you know me), or LOL…if it works the best, then it beats the rest.

    So if this is the next generation Pearl and it’s being released on ATT now, that means we probably won’t see it on Verizon until a year from now. Maybe it’ll be upgraded to include 3G at that point?!

    I too like bluehorseshoe’s sentiment that the vast majority of people do not know or care what type of technology their cell phone works on…and only care how well it works.

    If a phone worked best on a network of 2 cans on a string that would be the better network. People are interested in end results, not technical details.

    Well this is exciting.. Unfortunately neither T-Mobile nor AT&T were the first US carrier of the 8120. It was actually SunCom Wireless, based out of North Carolina. They have had this phone for about a month and a half.. Not sure why it is taking other carriers so long to hop on the band wagon..

    This is a correction to the following: AT&T will be carrying the 8110 not the 8120. The 8110 has built in GPS. My understanding is that T-Mobile will be carrying the 8120.

    Of course, T-Mo now owns SunCom. However, the stores and brand have not changed and who know when that will happen. Here is Raleigh, we still have SunCom stores.
