BlackBerry Slider… Possibly Code Named “T”… Possibly Launching In April

According to the CEO of Korean based parts supplier to RIM, Woojeon & Handan, a new BlackBerry code named “T”, possibly the BlackBerry Slider, is going to be released in April.

The Canadian company RIM famous for BlackBerry smartphones is releasing a new model next month. Known as the “T,” The new model is an ambitious product aimed at competing against iPhone’s storm of success. Rim will present it (“T”) as its flagship model to compete in global markets such as the U.S. and Europe.

I have to say that I am just a bit skeptical…

Might RIM officially announce the BlackBerry Slider next month? Maybe… Will they actually release the Slider next month? I just can’t see it.

Additionally, it is being said that the new device will become RIM’s flagship device. I don’t see that being the case either. The last time RIM tried to make a new device their flagship device we got the original BlackBerry Storm pre OS 5.

Is 2-Way Gmail Sync Coming With BIS 3.0? Yes, No, Maybe…

There has been a lot of conflicting information when it comes to the inclusion of 2-way Gmail Sync in BIS 3.o . When BIS 3.0 was first announced it was believed that 2-way Gmail sync was going to be included in the update. More recently, we started hearing that 2-way sync didn’t make it into 3.0. Now that BIS 3.o is being rolled out in EMEA, it looks like 2-way Gmail Sync isn’t a core piece of the the update, however, an official KB article in the BlackBerry Support Community Forums indicates that the Enhanced Gmail Plugin for BlackBerry will actually include 2-way Gmail Sync.

One of the concerns for many BlackBerry users, when it comes to a BlackBerry with a slide-out keyboard, is that the device would be just too thick to use comfortably. BBLeaks has more pictures of the BlackBerry Slider online and in a side view comparison to the BlackBerry 8900, the BlackBerry Slider is not as thick as you might think.

It looks like the BlackBerry Curve 8530 won’t be the only Verizon BlackBerry getting an OS update in the not too distant futre. Word on the street is that the an OS 5 update for the Verizon BlackBerry Tour 9630 is coming sometime in the next couple of weeks. It will have Push-To-Talk support which will cost you an additional $5 per month on your Verizon bill.

RIM Confirms Plans To Bring Manufacturing Plant To Brazil

There have been rumors floating around that RIM was going to start building BlackBerry devices in Brazil. Looks like those rumors were true.

A senior editor from BerryReview.com was attending a RIM development seminar in Brazil where the rumor was confirmed.

They plan on working with Flextronics to manufacture the BlackBerry Curve 8520 in Brazil. It looks like RIM is planning on making an even bigger play into Latin America with Brazil combined with their current plant in Mexico

Just How Thick Is The BlackBerry Slider?

So, photos of the BlackBerry Slider have been making their way around the web for 24 hours or so and there a lot of questions being asked about the device. What OS will the BlackBerry Slider run? What kind of touchscreen does it have? Will it be called Storm or Bold? I’ve got just one question that I am most concerned about.

Just how thick is the BlackBerry Slider?

There is no question that the BlackBerry Slider is going to be thicker than its fixed keyboard and toucscreen only counterparts. The question is how much thicker will it be? BBLeaks has some higher quality pics of the BlackBerry slider up and the one you are looking has the slider right next to a BlackBerry Curve 8900. The Slider, clearly, is thicker than the 8900, however, the angle just doesn’t really allow you to see how much.

Update: The images of the BlackBerry Slider originated from BBLeaks so we wanted to update this post to give credit where credit is due…

So, the Internet’s buzzing with what could be the first live pictures of the BlackBerry Slider, possibly the BlackBerry Storm3, and the big question that everyone is asking… “Are these pictures fake.” I’m not a Photoshop expert and can’t really tell just by looking at the pictures, however, I can’t, for the life of me, figure out why a BlackBerry with a touchscreen would also need a track pad. These first live pics of the BlackBerry Slider, Storm3, or whatever this device will be call just isn’t passing the gut test…

It’s looking like my gut feel may be wrong. CrackBerry is reporting that not only is this real, but, is probably what the BlackBerry Slider that gets released will look like… I still am not sure why it needs a trackpad. Actually, I am starting to get it…

Verizon Discontinues 4 BlackBerrys… The BlackBerry Storm Rumors Are True

So, the rumors about the Verizon Blackberry Storm being discontinued are true and 3 of its buddies are being discontinued right along with it. Like I said before, this really isn’t that big of a deal because most of these devices have been placed by newer devices.

Along with the BlackBerry Storm 9530, the BlackBerry 8830, Curve 8330, and Pearl Flip 8230 were also discontinued.

Rumor Alert: Is Verizon Discontinuing The BlackBerry Storm?

Update: It looks like the rumor is correct. The Verizon BlackBerry Storm 9530 and 3 other BlackBerry devices are being end of lifed…

Word on the street (quite literally, actually) is that investors and analysts believe that there is speculation among traders about a report that indicated orders for the BlackBerry Storm were cut or canceled. The name of the research shop that produced the note wasn’t immediately known and both RIM and Verizon either declined to comment, or, don’t have a comment at this time.

My initial take on this rumor is that it is probably true, and, it really isn’t that big of a deal…

My guess is that this rumor applies only to the BlackBerry Storm, not the BlackBerry Storm2, and, we’re probably still several months away from a time when you can no longer by a BlackBerry Storm from Verizon. We’re also probably not too far away from the time that we start hearing rumors about the BlackBerry Storm3, or, whatever RIM and Verizon decide to call their new touchscreen device.

Excluding the original BlackBerry Curve, RIM doesn’t generally continue to manufacture devices that have been replaced by newer versions of the same line multiple times. I know this upsets a lot of people, however, if RIM could have put all the cool technology currently available today into a device that debuted in the fall of 2008, they would have. The natural order of things is for older models to be phased out to make room for new models with more features and functionality.

So, is Research in Motion discontinuing the BlackBerry Storm? Yeah, eventually… But, like I said, it isn’t that big of a deal.
