Even though Facebook for BlackBerry made our 5 Must Have Free BlackBerry Downloads… Second Edition, there are a few things that are kind of annoying about the tool.

One of those annoying things is that “Is” appears after your name when you update your status. RIM decided to come out with an update specifically to remove the “Is” from the Veiw Status screen, however, according to BBGeeks, the “Is” is still there.

PhoneTag, who recently changed its name from SimulScribe, has added a really cool new feature. PhoneTag is the Visual VoiceMail application that we wrote a detailed review of the BlackBerry version a month or so ago.

The cool new feature that they added along with the changing of their name is the ability for you to upload your address book up to their servers. Doing so will allow their transcription software to send the transcribed message with your contacts name in the To field allowing you to quickly reply via email. It will also properly spell the contacts name so you immediately recognize who the message from.

This feature isn’t terribly new for BlackBerry users who download the SimulSays client to their device. When an email comes in the client software uses caller ID to search for a matching contact in your address book. It will, however, make PhoneTag much more usable for subscribers not fortunate enough to be using a BlackBerry.

Lets say that you are looking for Starbucks. Simply hit the Tellme icon on your BlackBerry and say “Starbucks”. Tellme will determine your location via GPS and give you a list Starbucks locations near you.

With Tellme on your mobile phone, you can find the nearest businesses based on your GPS location** and also get maps, directions, and traffic information right on your screen! Just say it and see it.

Unfortunately Tellme doesn’t support all BlackBerry devices. It currently works only on the 8100, 8800, 8820, 8830, and 8310. If you have one of these devices, Tellme might be kind of cool to check out.

I figure that instead of just giving them my opinion, we could ask the opinion of the broader BlackBerry community.

I haven’t had the chance to give Jott the once over on my BlackBerry, however, it appears to be similar to some of the visual voicemail solutions that we’ve talked about before. The difference is that your voice is what is being transcribed and then sent off to the person that you are emailing.

Jott is currently a free BlackBerry download while in beta so give it a try and remember to come back here and tell us what you think.

Viigo, the company that brought you the popular free RSS aggregator for your BlackBerry has put up a new teaser site for Project Tango, new piece of technology coming out at WES. We can’t tell you exactly what Project Tango is, however, it looks like a new and improved RSS aggregator. If you look closely you will notice a section for Audio just below WES2008 under the red veil.

Might streaming podcast support be coming to the BlackBerry? Time will definitely tell. If you can wait a few more months however, download Viigo to your BlackBerry now. Viigo is one BlackBerry application that I use myself and the price is right too…
