Apple today released the much anticipated iPhone SDK which includes Microsoft Exchange Push. Should RIM be worried?

Apple answers the prayers of many an iPhone owner announcing that enterprise Microsoft Exchange “Push” technology is being added to the device via the iPhone SDK. That’s right fanboys and fangirls, you will soon be able to get your email, contacts, and calendar pushed directly from Exchange to your iPhone.

So, how does this news affect Research in Motion and the top position that the BlackBerry has in the enterprise today? Well, I don’t think it affects them any more than it did when Apple first released the iPhone back in June of last year. RIM had to have known that the next logical step for the iPhone was for it be able to get email directly from Exchange, and, quite honestly, I am kind of surprised that it didn’t day one when the thing shipped.

Surely some would be BlackBerry owners will opt instead for iPhones if they can get their “work” email on them. Let’s not, however, adorn the iPhone the next “BlackBerry Killer” just yet. At least wait until you can get an iPhone without a camera, with a physical keyboard, and on a network other than AT&T.

Is the Verizon BlackBerry Curve coming out this month? A lot of Verizon subscribing BlackBerry users hope so...

Back in May of last year we wrote a post asking how long will it take for Verizon to release the BlackBerry Curve, and, 462 comments later, the conversation on that post is going as strong as ever.

There are rumors floating around that Verizon may come with the CDMA BlackBerry Curve as soon as the end of this month, however, I am still going with some right around WES, about a month later.

I know many RIMarkable readers just don’t understand why Verizon subscribers would stick with a company that doesn’t offer the phones that they want up to a year after they come out on GSM networks in some cases. The comments, however, in this particular post, which seem to have been picking up steam as of late, give some insight intto the minds of Verizon subscribers who are upset that they can’t get the BlackBerry Curve, but, rely on Verizon’s network so much that they don’t feel they can switch, or, in some cases, switch back after leaving to get the GSM Curve.

I am not saying that they are right or wrong, misguided or misinformed. I am saying that I understand. As millions of Verizon subscribers believe, I think that Verizon has the best network out there and that it is so much better than the competitions that we are willing to forgo new devices on GSM carriers. Verizon, however, needs to take note. I also believe that many of these “loyal” Verizon subscribers would switch in a heartbeat to a GSM carrier the moment they feel like the GSM networks have the network coverage and speed of Verizon’s network.

It’s a dangerous game you play Verizon. If T-Mobile or AT&T upgrades their networks to 3G everywhere and fill in the coverage gaps that they are notorious for having before you either move to LTE or convince manufactures to come out with CDMA devices at a faster pace, you could see your earnings shrink faster than Sprints.

The free BlackBerry Entertainment Starter Pack being offered by bplay.com isn’t anything new. As a matter of fact, we may have even talked about before here on RIMarkable. One of the questions, however, that I am asked the most here on RIMarkable is “Where can I get free BlackBerry games?”

We talk often about heading over to mobile.blackberry.com, however, if you are willing to sign up to the bplay newsletter, not only can you get a free BlackBerry game, but a free BlackBerry theme, and a free BlackBerry ringtone as part of the BlackBerry Entertainment Starter Pack.

When it comes to BlackBerrys not everything is a bed of roses. Here is a list of ten things we hate about BlackBerrys...

If you ever make the mistake of asking pretty much any BlackBerry user that you ever meet what they love about their BlackBerry they will spend about 10 minutes telling you all the stuff that has vaulted the BlackBerry to the top of the list when it comes to smartphones and kept it there for the past 3 or 4 years.

Believe it or not, however, there are some things about the BlackBerry that are less than desirable and we’ve decide to clue you in to a few of them.

Here are ten things that we hate about BlackBerrys in no particular order.

1. The BlackBerry Browser is horrible — The BlackBerry is definitely not a device designed to effectively browse around the internet. It is truly amazing to me at just how slow and bad the BlackBerry Browser is and it has little to do with the small screen. Windows Mobile, Palm OS, Symbian, and just about every other mobile OS has a browser that could dance circles the BlackBerry. That’s not even to mention the browser on the iPhone. There simply is no comparison there.

2. The color of the BlackBerry you want is always on another carrier — For the passed couple of years, you have been able to, for the most part, get the same model BlackBerry devices from each of the carriers. The major differences are in the color schemes. I don’t know if it is Murphy’s Law or what, but, how is that that no matter what carrier you are on, the color of the BlackBerry model that you really like is on a different carrier?

Viigo, the company that brought you the popular free RSS aggregator for your BlackBerry has put up a new teaser site for Project Tango, new piece of technology coming out at WES. We can’t tell you exactly what Project Tango is, however, it looks like a new and improved RSS aggregator. If you look closely you will notice a section for Audio just below WES2008 under the red veil.

Might streaming podcast support be coming to the BlackBerry? Time will definitely tell. If you can wait a few more months however, download Viigo to your BlackBerry now. Viigo is one BlackBerry application that I use myself and the price is right too…

Not only has Microsoft removed native BlackBerry support, but they’ve removed it for third party applications like the Missing Synch.

Say what you want about Microsoft, they generally make good business decisions for the most part. I have to admit, however, that I have no idea what they are thinking here.

Tell Research in Motion why your BlackBerry is the coolest gadget ever...

It would appear that re-branding the BlackBerry OS from 4.3.1 to 4.5 is not the only thing the marketing department over at Research in Motion is working on right now.

RIM has started a new ad campaign where they want you to Ask Someone Why They Love Their BlackBerry.

BlackBerry owners can go to the site and share their stories as to why they love their BlackBerrys and there are several videos of featured BlackBerry owners telling there stories.

It’s kind of a cool idea I guess. The main issue I see is that the featured owners all seem to be doctors, authors, TV producers, and successful entrepreneurs, etc. I guess that’s OK if the only demographic you are trying to capture are well to do business professionals. It seems to me, however, that most of these folks already have BlackBerrys.

It would be nice to see featured owners that are school teachers, stay-at-home moms, college graduates looking for jobs, and maybe a factory worker or two. RIM might get a bit more bang for their buck if they target middle class America too…
