It seems like it is kind of of a slow day as far as BlackBerry related news goes, so, I figured that I would throw a question out there for discussion that colleague asked me this morning.

Why are so many more celebrities seen with BlackBerry devices as compared to iPhones?

As many of you long time RIMarkable readers know, we spun off a category, Celebrity BlackBerry Sightings, into it’s own site a few years back.  For a site that does little more than display mostly paparazzi style photos of famous people with BlackBerrys, Celebrity BlackBerry Sightings gets a ridiculous amount of traffic.

Now, I am not saying that there aren’t a lot of celebs who use iPhones.  There most certainly are.  But, when compared to the number of BlackBerry toting famous folk out there, their numbers seem almost insignificant.

The comments are open to all who want to weigh in on why this is the case, or, why I am completely off base.

I don’t know if you guys remember this, but, John Mayer was one of the first people walking around with a BlackBerry Bold.  He even blogged about unboxing it when he got it back in mid-May.

Well, it would appear that Mr. Mayer has moved on from the Bold and on to the BlackBerry Storm.

Research in Motion appears to be a big fan of Celebrity BlackBerry Sightings. So much so that they actually have created A PowerPoint highlighting some of the famous people that use them.

Hmm… I wonder where the got all these pictures of famous BlackBerry users?

It would appear that the launch of the BlackBerry Bold is near. More and more celebrities are being spotted with what we are being told is the coolest BlackBerry device to date.
 

 
John Mayer was the first celebrity to be seen out an about with a BlackBerry Bold. Seeing how BlackBerry is sponsoring his summer concert tour we can see how he was able to get his hands on the Bold early. That latest celebrity BlackBerry Bold sighting is Kate Hudson. We’re not sure how she was able to get one early, however, being rich and famous probably has a bit to do with it.

A few RIMarkable readers have asked why we haven’t posted any recent pictures of celebrities with BlackBerrys lately. Well, that would be because we’ve created an entire site dedicated to celebrities with BlackBerrys, appropriately named Celebrity BlackBerry Sightings.

It still amazes me that some of the most popular posts here are RIMarkable a pictures of famous folks using their BlackBerrys. When I say popular, we are talking about hundreds of thousands of page views over the years.

Washington DC mayor Adrian Fenty really likes BlackBerry devices. He has three of them on his belt, one for his mayoral duties, one for immediate contact with the Washington DC Chief of Police, and one for personal duties. According to the DCist, there are even rumors of the mayor wanting a forth BlackBerry.

If you take a look at Fenty’s campaign website from last year, you will see his BlackBerry no less than 6 times in a 30 second video.

I am going to go out on a limb and assume that the majority of BlackBerry users would consider email to be the BlackBerry’s killer feature. Besides email, however, what excites you about your BlackBerry like whatever American Idol contestant, Katherine McPhee, has discovered about her 8700 that has her busting at the seams with excitement.
