More BlackBerry Pearl Shots

Over on EngadgetMobile, BoyGenius has posted more pics of the BlackBerry Pearl. I must say that this is, in my opinion, the sleekest looking BlackBerry yet.

The BlackBerry Pearl is Thin… Really Thin…

BlackBerry Forums supermoderator BoyGenious, the one who first broke news about the BlackBerry Stealth, a.k.a., the BlackBerry 8100, a.k.a., the BlackBerry Pearl, has decided to post some live shots of the RIM’s first CameraBerry that can be found here.

For me, the thing that stands out most is just how thin the BlackBerry Pearl is. There it is on the right next to a Razr and, believe it or not, the Pearl is actually thinner than the Razor.

Now I am sure that a BlackBerry traditionalist or two will read this post and roll their eyes at what I am about to say next, however, for a BlackBerry the Pearl is pretty slick looking as compared to mobile phones in general. This is very important because this device has to have mass appeal to folks who aren’t necessarily looking for a BlackBerry, but a cool cameraphone that it will be easy to send emails from.

More CameraBerrys on the horizon

RIMarkable reader Gary has been following some of the threads over on BlackBerry Forums and it would appear that boygenius, the insider that initially leaked news about the BlackBerry Stealth, what we now know to be the BlackBerry 8100 “Pearl”, is gaurunteeing that in addition to the Pearl, a full QWERTY keyboard CameraBerry is coming out as well.

CrackBerry Addict headtailgrep, who has over 500 posts on BlackBerry Forums, seems to support boygenius’s claim stating that Rogers will soon carry the 8100 and a full QWERTY keyboard model that is similar to the 8100.

These are all just rumors right now, however, it would appear that it will be an interesting fall for Research in Motion, except for on Sprint and Verizon, but, that is for another post.

Thanks for the tips Gary…

The BlackBerry 8100 gets a name: BlackBerry Pearl

It looks like Research in Motion is really intends for their new BlackBerry devices to stay on the minds of consumers as they have started giving devices names instead of numbered designations that no one remembers in the first place.

The to be officially announced BlackBerry 8100, according to a leaked press release, will be called the BlackBerry PearlTM. RIM has actually trademarked the name BlackBerry Pearl and so you know that it will be around for a while.

I think that I liked the code name BlackBerry Stealth a bit more, however, actually naming BlackBerry devices is definitely a move in the right direction.

Bad News for Sprint and Verizon subscribers waiting for the BlackBerry 8100

BlackBerry users on Sprint and Verizon, especially, are used to waiting 8 to 10 months, sometimes even more than a year before new BlackBerry devices become available on their CDMA networks. There had been a ray of hope, however, that the recently leaked BlackBerry 8100 cameraphone, a.k.a. the CameraBerry, was going to to come out around the same time as it’s GSRM brethren.

Well, that ray of hope has been dimmed, as one of Russell Shaw’s informants has told him that the BlackBerry 8100 for T-Mobile and Cingular are pretty much ready, however, the Verizon version, and since Verizon and Sprint use the same gear one could assume the Sprint version as well, have experienced some “notable development delays“.

Top 10 questions I have about the BlackBerry 8100

Surely, by now you have seen all the pictures of the BlackBerry 8100 cameraphone and heard of all the wonderful things that it is supposed to do in addition to taking pictures like support multimedia and have a removable media slot. I, however, have about 10 questions that, when answered, will really give us some insight into how this puppy will stand up against other smartphones.

  1. How many megapixels will the digital camera be? — I am already on the record for stating that it should be at least 2.0.
  2. Will it support standard media formats? — Being able to play downloaded videos in the CamWest MediaWorks VideoPlayer is one thing, however, I want to know if there will be like a Windows Media Player or a QuickTime Player or something that can stream content from these formats?
  3. Is there a stereo headphone jack? — I know that BerryTunes came out last week, however, If I am going to listen to MP3s, I want to do so through stereo headphones.
  4. Can multimedia audio play back via Bluetooth? — If you are watching SportsCenter highlights of the game, will the audio play through your Bluetooth headset?
  5. Will there be support for SlingPlayer Mobile? — Being able to run my SlingBox from my BlackBerry is the thing that will make me go out and buy a Blackberry 8100 the day that they are released regardless of the carrier.

The CameraBerry, urrr, umm, the BlackBerry 8100 series camerphone is unvieled…

The day that many of us have been waiting for, and some, quite honestly, have been cursing, is finally here. We have pictures of the CameraBerry and as Russell Shaw from BBHub predicted, it will be called the BlackBerry 8100.

The new BlackBerry 8100 series cameraphones which i belielve will become the hottest selling BlackBerrys among consumer oriented gadget freaks will have a microSD slot and multimedia playback in addition to the integrated digital camera that we hope is at least 2.0 megapixels.

Endgaget has a bunch of BlackBerry 8100 Pictures that we have reposted on the next page.

Amp’d BlackBerry: Would a pre-paid BlackBerry plan work?

I saw a very interesting hope or wish for new type of BlackBerry service plan when the CameraBerry is finally announced. What do you think about a pre-paid BlackBerry service plan?

Can you imagine the logo? Amp’d BlackBerry… It’s cool as $#!+

Personally, I don’t think that it would every fly. The demographic is all wrong. Granted, Research in Motion is going after consumer market that wants multimedia, MP3, a digital camera, etc., however, Research in Motion is far from putting out a device that competes with the SideKick or the Helio.

The idea of a pre-paid BlackBerry does make me wonder about something else, however. How long will it be before we start seeing QWERTY keyboards on pre-paid mobiles kind of like we see digital cameras today?
