Why Verizon really needs to come out with a CameraBerry soon

I while back I wrote a post about why Bluetooth Blackberry keyboards are not that practical and if I had a digital camera in my BlackBerry I would have taken a picture that would have illustrated this point perfectly.

I saw a guy trying to use a wireless keyboard with what looked like a BlackBerry 8700c. We were sitting on a bus from the airport terminal to the car rental place and as the bus moved, the gentleman found it increasingly difficult to balance the BlackBerry on one knee while trying to type on the keyboard on the other. Finally, he reached into his bag, pulled out his laptop, and used the laptop as a tray to hold the keyboard and the BlackBerry so that he could type his message.

This was funny to me and I thought that I’d share. You would probably would have thought it was funny too if you were looking at a picture of a dude using a laptop as a tray for his BlackBerry and wireless Bluetooth keyboard.

Please Verizon, come out with BlackBerry with camera in it soon….

Do CameraBerrys make cameraless BlackBerrys seem “Ho Hum”?

Research in Motion released the BlackBerry Pearl a couple of weeks ago and by all accounts it is doing incredibly well. So well, in fact, that a recurring them in several of the BlackBerry message boards is that all new BlackBerrys should come with camera.

I, for one, have no intention of buying a BlackBerry without a camera ever again. If I were to break or lose my 7130e before Verizon comes out with a CameraBerry I might have to take that statement back, however, the bigger question is now that CameraBerrys are here to stay, do cameraless BlackBerrys just seem like old school devices that only researchers at Area 51 would use?

Which comes first… A Verizon CameraBerry or a QWERTY CameraBerry?

I was just thinking about how the BlackBerry 7100t first came out on T-Mobile, shortly followed by other GSM carriers with other 7100 models. Verizon, on the other hand, never really came out with and 7100 and went straight to the 7130 for their first candybar size BlackBerry.

T-Mobile is, once again, first to market with the BlackBerry Pearl surely to be followed by the other GSM carriers. It will be some time, from what we’ve seen in the passed, before a CDMA Cameraberry hits the shelves. My question is what do you think that you will see first? A QWERTY Cameraberry or a Verizon CameraBerry?

Maybe RIM will throw us for a loop and the first QWERTY CameraBerry comes out on Verizon. Wouldn’t that be wonderful?

Will you switch carriers just to get a BlackBerry Pearl?

Tomorrow’s release of the BlackBerry Pearl on T-Mobile marks the beginning of a new era of multimedia enabled BlackBerry devices for Research in Motion. Although there have been rumors that a Cingular branded BlackBerry Pearl could hit shelves as soon as October, it will be quite some time before the Pearl, or, any CameraBerry for that matter, is offered by the CDMA carriers Verizon and Sprint.

The question that I have is for those of you that really want a Pearl but are on networks that won’t have it for a while. Will you switch carriers just to get a BlackBerry Pearl?

The BlackBerry Pearl’s Media Player Sucks!

With the Blackberry Pearl being the first CameraBerry and RIM’s first dabble into multimedia, I tried to come up with a nice way to say that Pearl’s Media Player is less than desirable and to make sure that RIMarkable readers know that I am very excited about the release next week. The best that I could come up with is that the BlackBerry Pearls Media Player sucks!

I was just saying the other day that RIM and Apple should come out with iTunes for the BlackBerry. You would think, however, that the developers of the BlackBerry Pearl’s Media Player, which would have seemed outdated 5 or 6 years ago, have never even heard of an iPod.

I just watched a video where Research in Motion co-CEO Mike Lazaridis said that they have been working on the BlackBerry Pearl for the last three years. If this is true, I urge you to go out and hire a few new developers and designers that own iPods as quickly as you possibly can…

Research in Motion Officially Announces the BlackBerry Pearl

After months of anticipation after the first leak of the BlackBerry Stealth, BlackBerry maker, Research in Motion, has officially announced the BlackBerry Pearl, a.k.a, BlackBerry 8100, a.k.a. CameraBerry.

This is the first BlackBerry specifically targeting consumer users. It will be very interesting to see how RIM markets the BlackBerry Pearl now that they officially acknowledge that it exists.

BlackBerry Prediction: The BlackBerry Pearl will become the best selling BlackBerry yet…

I don’t think that I am going out on a limb when I say that there is as much if not more buzz around the BlackBerry Pearl as than any other BlackBerry to date, including the BlackBerry 8700. Therefore, I don’t think that it is too much of a stretch to say that the BlackBerry Pearl will become the best selling BlackBerry yet.

To be totally honest, however, it won’t be the low $199 price or the fact that the Pearl’s target demographic is the biggest to date for RIM alone that will take sales of the first CameraBerry to record highs. RIM has decided to give their next generation devices names and they will be the same regardless of the carrier, unlike there current practice of specific letter designations for certain carriers. Unless the hardware on the BlackBerry Pearl has more bugs than a Treo and the software is less reliable than Windows Mobile, RIM can’t help but make a killing off of this device.

Does anyone care to bet against me?

BerryBlogging…

When first started RIMarkable a couple of years ago, I thought that one of the things that I would do often is post to my blog from my BlackBerry. When I look the almost two years that RIMarkable has been around, however, I can count on one hand the number of times that I have actually blogged a post from my BlackBerry.

You know what they say, a picture speaks a thousand words, and the inability to take pictures with your BlackBerry has definitely stemmed the tide of mobile posts. This might all change when the BlackBerry Pearl becomes available.

With the BlackBerry Pearl due to hit shelves in a couple of weeks I think that moblogging, for me, and for the new demographic that the Pearl will be targeting, just may be taken to the next level. In fact, moblogging from one’s camera enabled Blackberry may become so popular that I think that it deserves it’s own name.

Let it be known that from this day forward that the act of blogging from ones “CameraBerry” should be called BerryBlogging.

QWERTY CameraBerry with Wi-Fi in time for Christmas…

It seems like we have been posting a lot rumors coming from Engadget’s mobile insider and BlackBerry Forums supermoderator Boy Genius lately, however, his word is golden and he has yet another leak on an upcoming BlackBerry model.

Over on Engadgetmobile, the Boy Genius tells us that Research in Motion will most likely have another CameraBerry with a full QWERTY keyboard and WiFi by Christmas. Additionally the new device, which will be called the BlackBerry 8200, will have a faster processor, more RAM, and possibly even an updated camera as compared to the BlackBerry Pearl.

Boy Genius says that RIM is still testing out hardware configurations, however, the BlackBerry 8200 will be about the size of a Motorola Q and black seems to be the front runner as far as colors go.

All that I can say is, “Get us some pictures Boy. We are dying to see what it looks like”.
