XING launches free app for BlackBerry smartphones Hamburg, July 2nd, 2009 – XING (xing.com), Europe’s leading business network, has launched a new app for BlackBerry® smartphones. The free download will enable more than 7 million business professionals connected over 146 million times worldwide on the platform to access their personal network directly from their mobile devices. The app keeps track of all the user’s contacts; phone numbers and email addresses are always available wherever they are, and automatically updated online by the members themselves. The “What’s new in your network” feature lets mobile users stay up-to-date on all the latest developments in their personal network, as well as enabling them to keep others informed by posting status messages of their own. Private messages on XING can also be received and replied to from wherever the user happens to be. Another highlight of the free XING app is that it synchronizes specific contact data on XING with the users’ address book contacts on their BlackBerry smartphone. People on the move can also call or email contacts in their network directly using the XING app.

In addition to English, the XING app supports German, Spanish, Turkish and Italian. The app can be downloaded for free directly to the user’s BlackBerry smartphone by simply by visiting the XING mobile website. The appropriate version is automatically detected and then displayed for download on the login page. The XING app requires an Internet-enabled BlackBerry smartphone running OS Version 4.2.1 or later with at least 64 MB internal memory and 170 KB of available memory.

We just heard that there is a beta of FlyCast 2, a streaming internet radio client for the BlackBerry, available for download.

Although station caching is available to all in the beta, this may become a premium feature once FlyCast 2 is released.

We have put up version 0.78 this morning which will resolve the timeline update issues that some users were seeing. In addition, this version allows the option to update your timeline when you open the application. Please download this version even if you are not seeing any issues with 0.75.

We received and email late last week letting us know that Stitcher has made their award winning streaming audio application available on the BlackBerry Storm.

If you listen to podcasts  or internet radio programs you may want to give Stitcher a try.  It is a quality BlackBerry application and you can’t beat the price.

Stitcher is also available on the BlackBerry Curve 8300, BlackBerry Bold, and a version for the BlackBerry Curve 8900 is coming soon.  You can download Stitcher by visting http://www.stitcher.com/dl from your device’s browser.

BlackBerry Messenger hasn’t really been significantly updated since it first came out years ago, however, judging by these pictures of an updated BlackBerry Messenger found over on BGR, the new BlackBerry to BlackBerry instant messaging platform has been completely overhauled.

Here is a list of just a few of the new features and enhancements:

• Avatar support — set your own avatar using the Camera or saved photo on your device (this is displayed locally as well as shown next to your Messenger name on your friend’s buddy list)
• GPS location integration — you can now set permissions so friends can always see your location, have to request it each time, or never can see it
• Proximity sensor — we’re guessing this will let you know if you’re within a certain distance of friends (pending, of course, you’re both set to share locations freely with each other)
• Set conversation subjects — this will allow you to organize your convos on the main Messenger screen and label them with subjects to keep track of all your conversations
• Homescreen support — you can pin/sticky actual Messenger contacts directly to the homescreen for easy access!

I know that this is probably just wishful thinking but how great would it be if RIM offered a desktop client for BlackBerry Messenger?  I’ll save the for another post.
