It looks like Research in Motion and Microsoft presenting to us again, for what seems like the 2nd or 3rd time, the idea of native Microsoft Live Services on the BlackBerry. According to a press release just out today, Microsoft Live Messenger and Hotmail both are to receive BlackBerry push support in the not too distant future.
The integration of Windows Live services into the BlackBerry platform will allow customers who use Windows Live Hotmail and Windows Live Messenger on their BlackBerry smartphone to benefit from the BlackBerry platform architecture with the ability to communicate in real-time using push technology, and offering an exceptional mobile communications experience. Customers will also be able to seamlessly access their Windows Live Hotmail and Windows Live Messenger account from their BlackBerry smartphone by simply entering their Windows Live e-mail address and password once.
We’ve listed the features of both Messenger and Hotmail for BlackBerry after the jump…

One of the rather pretty cool free BlackBerry applications released in recent times is Facebook for BlackBerry which came out in October last year. Even though Facebook for BlackBerry made our 5 Must Have Free BlackBerry Downloads… Second Edition, there are a few things that are kind of annoying about the tool.
One of those annoying things is that “Is” appears after your name when you update your status. RIM decided to come out with an update specifically to remove the “Is” from the Veiw Status screen, however, according to BBGeeks, the “Is” is still there.

When we talk about BlackBerrys here on RIMarkable we almost always do so from the perspective of the BlackBerry user. We know, however, that there are a lot of BlackBerry Administrators managing BlackBerry Enterprise Server deployments of all sizes that stop by from time to time as well. I have a question for BlackBerry administrators today.
What tools do you use to help manage your BlackBerry deployment?
I am sure that a lot of BlackBerry administrators use just the native tools to manage BES, however, I am just as sure that a lot of BES admins, especially ones with larger deployments, use third party tools that make dealing with their day to day BlackBerry administration tasks a lot easier and much less time consuming.
If you use such tools in your BES deployment, drop us a comment and tell us the name of the tool and how it helps you.

Yesterday at a New York press conference Bill McDermott, president and CEO of SAP Americas and Asia Pacific Japan, announced that SAP CRM has been natively integrated into the BlackBerry giving mobile workers full access to all of SAP CRM’s features which will automatically be pushed to them on their device.
There are 800 million mobile professionals worldwide and this will grow to 1 billion by 2010. The bottom line: SAP and RIM have now converged the worlds of applications and mobility on the BlackBerry and you will have applications, business processes and productivity on your hip.
This native integration will allow sales people to check leads or look up sales activity and purchase orders, etc. just as easily as they check email or look at their calendar.
BlackBerry devices with native SAP CRM integration are expected to be available within the next few months, however, SAP isn’t stopping with just CRM integration. SAP plans to put all of their business applications on the BlackBerry.
“CRM’s just the start here; we will continue to build this out – ERP, the supply chain, industry applications,” said Bob Stutz, SAP’s executive vice president and general manager, Industries and CRM Products.

PhoneTag, who recently changed its name from SimulScribe, has added a really cool new feature. PhoneTag is the Visual VoiceMail application that we wrote a detailed review of the BlackBerry version a month or so ago.
The cool new feature that they added along with the changing of their name is the ability for you to upload your address book up to their servers. Doing so will allow their transcription software to send the transcribed message with your contacts name in the To field allowing you to quickly reply via email. It will also properly spell the contacts name so you immediately recognize who the message from.
This feature isn’t terribly new for BlackBerry users who download the SimulSays client to their device. When an email comes in the client software uses caller ID to search for a matching contact in your address book. It will, however, make PhoneTag much more usable for subscribers not fortunate enough to be using a BlackBerry.

A few weeks ago we did a review of SimulSays, an application and service from SimulScribe which essentially gives you visual voicemail for BlackBerry.
When James Siminoff and Mark Dillon started SimulScribe in 2003 they code named their project “Simultaneous Voicemail Transcription” and shortened it to SimulScribe. Unfortunately, the name they choose really is kind of hard to spell and doesn’t give you any idea what the company is about.
The name SimulScribe totally sucks for our business. People have a real challenge remembering the name and they cannot spell it, which is a real problem considering that new customers need to type in our web address to sign up. When your company offers a consumer product that relies on viral marketing, a difficult name is a really bad thing. In fact, I’m constantly amazed at how well we have been able to do with such a shitty name.
To make a long story short, SimulScribe is changing its name to PhoneTag at 11:59 P.M. EST tonight. If you want to here the story of hey the came up with the name PhoneTag head on over to TechCrunch.

If you haven’t already signed up for your free trial of SimulSays from PhoneTag you can do so here. You can get an extended 30 day trial through our link as compared to the standard one week you get through the site.

Microsoft has released a cool new utility for BlackBerry called Tellme that allows you to search GPS directions, traffic information, maps, movies, businesses and more via your BlackBerry simply by saying the name of the item that you are looking for.
Lets say that you are looking for Starbucks. Simply hit the Tellme icon on your BlackBerry and say “Starbucks”. Tellme will determine your location via GPS and give you a list Starbucks locations near you.
With Tellme on your mobile phone, you can find the nearest businesses based on your GPS location** and also get maps, directions, and traffic information right on your screen! Just say it and see it.
Unfortunately Tellme doesn’t support all BlackBerry devices. It currently works only on the 8100, 8800, 8820, 8830, and 8310. If you have one of these devices, Tellme might be kind of cool to check out.

One of the most popular posts that we have here on RIMarkable is 5 Must Have Free BlackBerry Downloads which was written almost two years ago back in June of 2006. Since so many visitors come to that particular post we’ve decided to update it 2008 style.

A RIMarkable reader recently asked me what I thought about a new service for the BlackBerry currently in beta called Jott which, among other things, will convert your voice into text allowing you to reply to emails and such using your voice instead of having to thumb them out. I figure that instead of just giving them my opinion, we could ask the opinion of the broader BlackBerry community.
I haven’t had the chance to give Jott the once over on my BlackBerry, however, it appears to be similar to some of the visual voicemail solutions that we’ve talked about before. The difference is that your voice is what is being transcribed and then sent off to the person that you are emailing.
Jott is currently a free BlackBerry download while in beta so give it a try and remember to come back here and tell us what you think.
