Just a little over a month ago Namura Holdings put out a report stating that Research in Motion will kill the BlackBerry OS soon and run with Symbian in it’s stead. In the most popular post here on RIMarkable in recent months, I asked the question should Research in Motion create a Windows Mobile powered device in addition to the BlackBerry.

If there is one that I could tell from the comments, BlackBerry users love the BlackBerry OS. Irrationally so in some cases as some die-hard BlackBerry users would leave RIM forever even if they offer a Windows Mobile device. I can only imagine the mayhem that would ensue if RIM scrapped the BlackBerry OS entirely and ran with Symbian, an OS the many folks in the U.S. have probably never heard of.

Nomura analyst Richard Windsor contends that a partnership between RIM and Symbian on future generations of the BlackBerry OS could benefit both companies. He feels the Ontario-based mobile email giant has no more than 18 to 24 months to move to a new platform in the dog-eat-dog enterprise smartphone market.

If you don’t like the thought of RIM offering Windows Mobile device in addition to the BlackBerry how would you feel if the BlackBerry no longer running the BlackBerry OS at all?
