Kindle for BlackBerry

It was back at the beginning of January when we first heard that Amazon was working on Kindle for BlackBerry.  It’s roughly 6 weeks later and the application is now available.

You can pick up Kindle for BlackBerry up OTA by pointing your device’s browser to http://www.amazon.com/kindlebb.

Kindle for BlackBerry Features:

  • Find New York Times Best Sellers and new releases for $9.99, unless marked otherwise
  • Get free book samples – read the first chapter for free before you decide to buy
  • Books you purchase can also be read on a Kindle, computer, or other Kindle-compatible mobile device
  • Kindle newspapers, magazines, and blogs are not currently available for Kindle for BlackBerry
  • Kindle for BlackBerry is available to U.S. customers only

Future Improvements:

  • Scrolling
In addition to page-by-page navigation, you will be able to scroll text line-by-line.

  • Search
You will be able to search within your book.

Umm, hey Amazon, BlackBerry/RIM is a Canadian company by the way. Give us Canadians some love :)

I am sorry, I cannot see myself trying to read a novel on my Blackberry Tour. My iPod Touch, maybe, but not the Tour. Just too small.

That was my thought as well. There’s just no way I’d ever consider reading a book on my BB. Personally, I like the idea of the iPad. Does more than just books, and makes me rethink about my NY Times and Wall Street “paper” subscriptions (which BTW, would pay for the iPad in less than two years even with my huge discounts). The BB is just too small to enjoy the experience.

Anybody having trouble getting it? I keep being promised an install link and simply getting an email referring me to the page where I requested the email…
