A New BlackBerry Storm OS Has Been Leaked Soft Released

by Robb Dunewood on December 1, 2008 · 13 comments

Don Nguyen has leaked BlackBerry Storm OS 4.7.0.75 and got the OK from his source to post it on his site for download.

CrackBerry.com did a quick video of the 4.7.0.75 in action and it seems to be considerably more responsive than 4.7.0.65 which shipped on the Storm.

Check the video out after the jump…

Do you know if I will have to go through Enterprise Activation with my BES Administrator again after applying the new OS and do they have to do anything special on their end for this new OS to operate with my work email?

That is a good question and one of the reasons that I didn’t link directly to the download.

I haven’t had a chance to install the new OS personally. If anyone knows the answer to this question, please leave a comment.

You probably will need to reactivate. I just sent an email out to all of my BlackBerry users telling them not to apply this update until I’ve had a chance to look at it…

It probably does or it absolutely does? I really need to know definitively.

I know that this doesn’t definitively answer your question, but, I just installed 4.7.0.75 and I had to add my yahoo and gmail accounts back to my BIS settings.

I am guessing that you will need to have your Blackberry administrator set your account up again.

In general: If you update the OS of a BB you need to activate it afterwards.

I have no clue how it works with the wireless Update, or the autoupdate in the Desktop Manager.

Yes, you need to reactivate. But it takes very little time as if you backed it up, there is very little info to sync but it will re-enable your email address on the Exchange server.

As far as the update, you will definitely notice that it takes a much shorter time (maybe 20-30 mins) and a chunk of that time os the backup and restore process. RIM has managed to speed this process up significantly.

I applied this and I am not finding a huge difference - but my storm seemed to be one of the good ones out of the box. I did not have any of the standard issues everyone has been talking about before upgrading. There is already a .76 OS out there but I would imagine VZ would release the .75 version first. The good news is that this device will get much better over time as the OS gets tuned.

Since this is not an offical VZW release yet, does this void the warranty or anything else? What risks, if any, are involved with dowlloading this?

I am relucatant to put any unofficial updates on my phone as the benefits outweigh the drawbacks. Anyone have a clue as to when we might see this officially released?

Will I loose my contacts and blackberry messenger friends?
