Can you convince someone to pay full price for a year-old tablet? It doesn’t sound like an appetizing proposition, yet it’s what RIM might have to do come February. As Robb noted earlier, the PlayBook will not get native email, contacts, calendars, or BBM until February. That’s not only disappointing because it’s four months from now, but because RIM was supposed to unleash the update right around now. It’s left me weeping into my PlayBook.
BlackBerry Messenger has been updated to v6.0.1 and, if not already, will soon be available for download in BlackBerry App World.
BlackBerry Messenger 6.0.1 features include:
- Explore BBM-connected Apps – BBM users will now be able to pull up “Explore BBM-connected Apps” from a menu in the BBM Contacts screen, which starts a BlackBerry App World storefront search for “BBM” by redirecting users to a list of up to 25 of the most popular BBM-connected apps available.
- Sharing App Content with Your BBM Contacts is Easier – Users can share app-specific content with BBM contacts regardless of whether the contact has the app installed.
- Include BBM v5.0 users in application invites – Now users can now invite BBM v5.0 & BBM v6.0 contacts to join in the fun and share BBM-connected app experiences.

One of the things that I’ve liked about the BlackBerry PlayBook since day one is its full support of Flash, allowing you to use sites like SpeedTest.net to check the speed of your wireless internet connection. Many PlayBook owners, however, have been waiting for a dedicated application, and, we are happy to report that Speedtest HD for BlackBerry PlayBook is now available in BlackBerry App World as a free download.
Remember the other day when AT&T tweeted that the BlackBerry Bold 9900 was coming soon? Well, that Tweet appears to have been deleted from AT&T’s timeline. I don’t want to make the leap that the deletion of that tweet means that it won’t be releasing the BlackBerry Bold soon, but, one must ask the question…
