Archives for March 2010
There have been an awful lot of leaked unofficial BlackBerry OSes that have come out over the last few days, so, instead of creating a post for each of them individually, we’ve compiled a list of all them here in a single post.
Note! These are unofficial and unsupported leaked versions of BlackBerry operating systems. Install them at your own risk, and, for goodness sake, make sure you have a good backup before attempting to install…
We’ve known for over a month now that Skype Mobile was coming to Verizon smartphones… We just didn’t know that date. Well, now we do. Skype Mobile will be landing on Verizon Android and BlackBerry devices Thursday, March 25th.
There is a leaked version of BlackBerry Messenger, 188.8.131.52, making it’s way around the interwebs… As with all leaked software… Make sure you have a good backup before you install it. Although it probably won’t, it could completely hose your OS.

Today at CTIA 2010, CrackBerry Kevin found out that the official Twitter for BlackBerry client will launch next Wednesday, March 31st. Twitter for BlackBerry has been in a “closed” beta for over a month, although you could easily find a leaked version online if you looked hard enough.
If RIM addressed the speed of Twitter for BlackBerry I’d say that it could be a nice little Twitter client. Definitely not the best BlackBerry Twitter client available, but, certainly good enough to significantly decrease the number of people that would be willing to pay for a third party client.
@SocialScope… You should have released your client long ago. You will never make what you could have made if you would have released a client 6 months to a year ago. Sure, some BlackBerry users will buy your client if and when you ever release it. Most, however, won’t…
OnMyWay is a new location based application from Telenav that allows you to notify one or more people of your estimated arrival time (ETA) before you actually show up.
Set the alert before you depart and recipients will be notified via SMS or email automatically as you near your destination or if you will be late for a meeting.
Unfortunately, OnMyWay isn’t available for the BlackBerry Storm, so, if you check it out, come back, leave us a comment, and tell us what you think.
DIRECTV has been working on a DVR Scheduler app for the the BlackBerry for quite some time and has just launched a beta of the application.
The easy-to-navigate app gives you quick access to various DVR and channel-browsing functions right from your device. Just fire it up, enter your login info and you’re good to go. Search for shows, browse by channel, date & time and more. Once you find something you want to record, just hit the menu key and you can schedule it with a few clicks. The app is a welcome alternative to using the slim mobile site.
The DIRECTV DVR Scheduler is a free BlackBerry download and is available for the BlackBerry Storm, Storm2, Bold, Tour, Curve 83xx, 85xx, 89xx and 88xx series devices.

Update: Bolt 2.0 Beta now available. Download here…
Word on the street is that version 2.0 of the Bolt BlackBerry browser is launching tomorrow morning (later this morning depending on your time zone) at the CITA wireless show in Las Vegas.
“Each new version of BOLT becomes more exciting to announce,” said Anna Magliocco-Chagnon, president and CEO of Bitstream. “We are closely listening to our end-users through our user forum, our Twitter and Facebook pages, and their comments on blog posts and articles, and they are guiding our development roadmap in important ways. It is this close relationship we are building with our users to which we attribute our stunning growth. BOLT added 1 million new users in the last five weeks alone.”
A lot of new features have been added in Bolt 2.0, however, the major add is true tabbed browsing.
Looks like the rumors were right. OS 220.127.116.118 for the Verizon BlackBerry Curve 8530 is now available for download. You can pick it up from the link below…
