PrivacyStar: Call Blocker With Reverse Call Lookup For BlackBerry

February 28, 2010 by Robb Dunewood 1 Comment

PrivacyStar, is a service launched just at the end of last year by First Orion that is best described as a BlackBerry call blocker on steroids. Not only does PrivacyStar allow you to block unwanted calls, it has the ability to do a reverse phone number look-up on any number that calls your BlackBerry as well as report potential telemarketing violators to regulatory enforcement authorities directly from the application.

PrivacyStar is a premium BlackBerry application service, however, First Orion is offering a Free 7-Day Trial that requires nothing more than downloading and installing the application on your BlackBerry.

How To Convert DVDs For Your BlackBerry

February 26, 2010 by Chris 8 Comments

After writing detailed instructions for Windows Phone users to convert DVD’s and watch them on their phones I have decided to help out the BlackBerry community.

The key to getting into converting movies is simplicity. It has to be easy. I have been doing it for a long time and have suffered through a lot, and,  now I can say, without a shadow of a doubt, the process is made easier by using DVDFab. DVDFab “DVD to DVD” has a lot of options for you to convert DVD’s.  It runs fast and is updated regularly.

Is This What A BlackBerry Super App Is Supposed To Look Like?

February 26, 2010 by Robb Dunewood 1 Comment

Some very interesting images emerged from yesterday’s BlackBerry Super App Webcast that we told you about a few days ago.  I am not quite sure what this application is, or, even if it is something that RIM is working on, but, it appears to be a some type of today page on steroids.

From one screen shot, we certainly can’t determine if this is a good BlackBerry application or not, however, it looks awfully nice.  I certainly hope that we, not only start to see really nice looking BlackBerry applications come out of RIM, but, the tools necessary for third party developers to create such applications without having to spend more time designing the GUI than it takes to code the functionality, come out as well.

Holding a webinar to show developers the possibilities of BlackBerry Super Apps is great.  RIM just needs to make sure that the tools necessary to create BlackBerry Super Apps are made available to them.

February 25, 2010 by Robb Dunewood 7 Comments

So, the rumors about the Verizon Blackberry Storm being discontinued are true and 3 of its buddies are being discontinued right along with it.  Like I said before, this really isn’t that big of a deal because most of these devices have been placed by newer devices.

Along with the BlackBerry Storm 9530, the BlackBerry 8830, Curve 8330, and Pearl Flip 8230 were also discontinued.

RIM Has Simply Got To Do Better When It Comes To BlackBerry Applications

February 24, 2010 by Robb Dunewood 12 Comments

I was just taking a look at numbers published by mobile analytics firm, Distimo, that outlines Research in Motion’s abysmal performance when it comes to BlackBerry applications as compared to their competitors.  The best way to describe the number of applications in BlackBerry App World is to call it a complete and utter embarrassment…

I would even go as far to say that if RIM doesn’t address application support and development on the BlackBerry in a big way this year, you will begin to see the BlackBerry’s gains in total market share begin to turn into losses, especially here in the United States.
