Skype Beta For BlackBerry Storm Leaked…

May 29, 2009 by Robb Dunewood 13 Comments

Skype Beta For BlackBerry StormWe’ve known for a while that it true Skype client for the the BlackBerry was in the works, however, it would appear that a Beta Skype Client for the BlackBerry Storm has been leaked.

Skype Beta for the BlackBerry Storm is a desktop installed App and I hear (I’ve yet to install it myself) that it has a few bugs.  If, however, you want to give it a go for yourself, you can get the desktop loader files at the link below.

Verizon BlackBerry Storm Software Update

Word on the street is that the Verizon BlackBerry Storm will receive an official software update, BlackBerry OS 4.7.0.203, this coming Sunday, May 31st.  I’ve got just 4 words…

It’s about frigging time!

BlackBerry Storm 2 Not Coming Until Late Fall At The Earliest

May 28, 2009 by Robb Dunewood 10 Comments

There had been rumors floating around that the BlackBerry Storm 2 could come out as early as this month and that it would definitely be out by the end of June, however those dreams have been dashed as Lowell McAdams, the top executive for the venture of Verizon Communications Inc and Vodafone Group Plc, officially stated in a webcast earlier today that the BlackBerry Storm 2 would come out on Verizon in about 6 months.

This pushes a release of the the next touch screen only BlackBerry to a late Fall if not early Winter release at the earliest.  I just hope that Verizon certifies an OS update for the original BlackBerry Storm before then…

Should Google And RIM Collaborate On A Next-Gen Android Powered BlackBerry?

May 28, 2009 by Robb Dunewood 14 Comments

Android Powered BlackBerryI just read an interesting post over on ZDNet how a Google Android powered BlackBerry would be the ‘Perfect Storm‘, pun intended.  I’ve actually thought for a while that RIM should create a device that runs Android.

A “Perfect Storm”: The Linux-based Android OS, and tight integration with Google’s web services, running on  BlackBerry hardware and connected to RIM’s corporate messaging/calendar syncing infrastructure would be an unstoppable mobile enterprise device platform that not even Apple’s iPhone, Windows Mobile or Palm webOS could dare to challenge. But could the marriage ever be consummated?

BlackBerry Users Browse The Web More Than We May Have Thought

May 27, 2009 by Robb Dunewood 3 Comments

State of the Mobile Web

I was just taking a look at Opera’s State of the Mobile Web, a monthly analysis of the key trends affecting the mobile Web worldwide, and I was a little surprised when I learned that the BlackBerry 8330 was the number one web browsing handset (running Opera Mini) for the month of April.  I was downright shocked to find that BlackBerry devices hold 7 of the top 10 spots on the list of mobile devices running Opera Mini.

I guess that BlackBerry users browse the web a  little more than I thought.

BlackBerry Still The Most Secure Smartphone…

May 27, 2009 by Robb Dunewood 17 Comments

BlackBerry Security

It probably doesn’t come as a huge surprise that the BlackBerry, according to report by Maribel Lopez , formerly of Forrester Research, tops the list when it comes to mobile security in smartphones.

The report, Successful Mobile Deployments Require Robust Security, rated mobile devices in 4 different categories on a 4-point scale.  The BlackBerry received a 4 out of 4 rating in each category.

BlackBerry vs. iPhone DeathMatch

May 26, 2009 by Robb Dunewood 32 Comments

Blackberry-vs-iPhone-Deathmatch

I just read an interesting and possibly controversial comparison of the BlackBerry and iPhone.  I am sure that RIM won’t be too pleased with Galen Gruman’s conclusion in the Infoworld BlackBerry vs. iPhone Deathmatch.

AT&T BlackBerry Curve 8900 $49.99 On Amazon and Newegg

May 26, 2009 by Robb Dunewood 1 Comment

$49 AT&T BlackBerry Curve 8900So, if you said that you were going to wait for the price on the AT&T BlackBerry Curve to drop a little before you picked one up, you didn’t have to wait as long as you might have thought you would.  Both Amazon and Newegg.com are offering the AT&T BlackBerry Curve 8900 to new AT&T subscribers signing up to a two year contract for $49.99 after an instant rebate.

The Curve 8900 was just released on AT&T’s site last Thursday for $199 after a $100 mail-in rebate.  The fact that you can get it for $49 just less than 5 days later may upset a few early birds, but, is one heck of a deal to say the least.

Premium BlackBerry Theme Blossom for 8900, 9000, and 9500

May 25, 2009 by Robb Dunewood 3 Comments

Blossom

Elecite has recently unveiled a new premium BlackBerry theme for the BlackBerry Curve 8900, BlackBerry Bold, and BlackBerry Storm called Blossom.  It probably isn’t politically correct to call Blossom a “girly” BlackBerry Theme so I will just say that there is a lot of pink as well as flowers and butterflies. Check Blossom out for yourself over at Elecite.com.  It will set you back $6.99…

First Shots Of The BlackBerry Curve 8530 ‘Aries’ Emerge

May 23, 2009 by Robb Dunewood 3 Comments

BlackBerry Curve 8530 'Aries'

The folks over at CrackBerry.com have gotten their hands on the BlackBerry Curve 8530 ‘Aries’, the CDMA version of the BlackBerry 8520 ‘Gemini’, and have posted a few pictures for us to take a look at.  From what we are being told, the Aries is pretty much identical to the Gemini except that it will run on CDMA based networks like Verizon, Sprint, Virgin Mobile, Telus, etc.

You can check out a few more pics here…
