Verizon BlackBerry Pearl Now Available Online

Well, the Verizon BlackBerry Pearl was available for pre-order for about 12 hours, however, it is now available for sale. Additionally, Verizon is offering a $50 mail-in rebate on top of the $100 instant online rebate which brings the price of the Verizon BlackBerry Pearl down to $149.99 with a two year contract.

You’ve still got to wait until November 8th to pick the device in the store, however, it appears that the devices are shipping immediately if you buy them online.

Verizon Has A New BlackBerry Data Plan

It would appear that Verizon customers have another choice when it comes to BlackBerry data plans. The Email and Web for BlackBerry plan appears to be a BIS only plan similar to the Sprint BlackBerry Power Vision Plan which launches on November 4th.

The Email and Web for BlackBerry Plan features include:

  • Your email will be “pushed” automatically to your device.
  • Access up to ten POP3 and IMAP email accounts, including Yahoo!® Mail, AOL® Mail, Windows Live® Hotmail®, and Verizon.net.
  • Easy email account setup.
  • Voice Usage: Per your voice calling plan.

Like the Sprint plan, the Verizon Email and Web for BlackBerry plan won’t allow you to hook your device up to BES and costs $30 per month.

I don’t generally look at BlackBerry data plans all that often so I don’t know for sure that Email and Web for BlackBerry plan is a brand new offering. I haven’t heard, however, of a $30 Verizon BlackBerry plan before today.

Facebook For BlackBerry May Be A Battery Drain

I was just reading an article over on Infotech about how Facebook for BlackBerry may be a huge battery drain on your Blackberry device.

“I downloaded it the very day it was launched. For next week or so, my battery would get drained out within a day, unlike the two days it used to last earlier. Then I figured out that it was due to this app and promptly removed it,” said a user Kunal S.

BlackBerry users are reporting a 10 to 15% increase in battery life after removing Facebook for BlackBerry.

Is it just me or does it make perfect sense that if you install an application that you start using all the time that you may see your power meter dwindle a bit faster than you did before? I just installed Golden Tee on my BlackBerry and I know that my battery drains more quickly. That’s probably due to the 90 minutes or so per day that I find myself playing the game.
