Verizon Needs To Release a CameraBerry Now!

Dear Verizon,

It has been 6 months since the BlackBerry Pearl was first released on T-Mobile. We know that you generally take about a year or so for your CDMA versions of BlackBerry devices to come out after they first appear on your GSM competitors, however, I don’t know how much longer you can afford to play this game.

I call it a game because, according to RIM President and co-CEO, Mike Lazaridis, the java based nature of the BlackBerry allows it to be “quickly ported over” to CDMA hardware. If it is easy to do, the only reason I can see that you don’t is because you are trying to gage the amount of time you can make your subscriber base wait without bolting along with the decreasing licensing fees you pay to RIM for new devices the farther you get away from their initial launch.

I understand that this is smart business in the corporate world. It won’t, however, work in the consumer world.

BlackBerry 8320, Yes. T-Mobile BlackBerry 8320, Maybe.

It looks like the Boy Genius has gotten his hands on a BlackBerry 8320, urrr ughm, the full QWERTY CameraBerry with Wi-Fi. This we know for sure.

It also looks like the BlackBerry 8320 will come out on T-Mobile. This we are not so sure about. The evidence after the jump, however, is convincing.

BlackBery Personal Use Tax

I know that there are several RIMarkable readers that live in the UK so I am hoping that a few of you can chime in a explain the BlackBerry Personal Use tax that goes into effect in April.

Please tell me if I’ve got this wrong, but, it looks like employers used to be able to give their employees up to £2,500 worth of equipment as a benefit in kind under the home computing initiative without tax consequences for private use. Starting in April, however, employees who use this equipment for significant personal use may have to pay taxes up to £500.

Are companies in the UK tax exempt when purchasing computer equipment? Here in the U.S. most states have a sales tax that is tacked on when BlackBerrys are first purchased in addition to sales tax on the the monthly service charges. It is no where near 20% percent, however.

emoze vs. BlackBerry Showdown: Round Two

Free “Push” based mobile email delivery company emoze is challenging the BlackBerry to another Showdown at the CTIA Wireless 2007 conference next week in Orlando to see who’s “Push” based email delivery system is the fastest.

In the first showdown, emoze beat the BlackBerry thumbs down. My guess is that emoze will win the speed test a second time, however, like I said the last time, it probably won’t mean much if it does.
