10 Applications Installed On My BlackBerry

May 11, 2010 by Robb Dunewood 19 Comments

A co-worker just got a brand new BlackBerry over the weekend and and asked me what cool BlackBerry applications they should install.  If figured the best way to answer would be to tell them what I had installed on my BlackBerry.  That being said, here is a list of 10 applications installed on my BlackBerry.

10 Applications Installed On My BlackBerry:

  1. PodTrapper —  Bar none, the best padcatching application available for the BlackBerry.
  2. Facebook for BlackBerry — A bit long in the tooth but it still does what it does…
  3. Poynt — An All-In-One location based search application.  A must download for all BlackBerry users…
  4. Score Mobile — Get all your MLB, PGA, NFL, NCAAF, CFL, NASCAR, NHL, NBA, MLS and EPL, coverage pushed directly to your device.
  5. Foursquare —  Popular social check-in app
  6. Twitter for BlackBerry —  The official BlackBerry Twitter Client
  7. UberTwitter —  Arguably the best BlackBerry Twitter client available
  8. Tether for BlackBerry — Allows you to share your BlackBerry’s wireless internet connection with your laptop, MacBook, or netbook without a monthly service charge to your carrier
  9. QuickPull —  Allows you to schedule automatic resets of your device and alerts your when your device falls below set thresholds for available memory.  Another must download…
  10. Google Maps —  Install Google Maps.  Uninstall BlackBerry Maps.  Never look back…

This is list of BlackBerry applications is, pretty much, irrefutably, are the top ten BlackBerry every created.  My logic is undeniable, however, feel free to debate me via the comments… 🙂

I have all but 2 of these apps on my curve 8900. I don’t have foursquare, or tether. I don’t see the point of foursquare. tether would be cool to have, but I don’t travel much, so I don’t really have a need for it

btw, Love the Podcasts, keep up the good work.

The fact that I even need QuickPull application on Blackberry is the reason that I’ve ordered my Android.

Well, if that is the reason, am and sorry to inform you that memory manager / process killer type applications are some of the most popular in Android Market, and, for good reason…

I recommend Task Manager from Rythm Software…

OMG Thanks. You always wonder if anyone really listens. Thank you so much about the podcast. Did you hear the chair incident. I still listen to that and laugh.

I see everyone talk about Poynt, but for my money (free) I like “Where”. It seems to be more accurate in my area (Indianapolis) and have more options.

I do see 1 missing app – Bolt or Opera Browser (at least until BB get their new one out)

But that’s just my $0.02 worth

I have 22 Apps on my BB 9550 with 101mb remaining. The only ones i have from your list and need are poynt, trapper, scoremobile and googlemaps. The rest are pretty much useless.

Tether for blackberry is a good application, but i dont need it because its free (Tethering)with t-mobile. I connect on my mac pro using my BB.

Well, two Twitter apps is a bit ridiculous in my book.
Viigo is a “must have” for me, but that will go away as an app to add soon enough now that they’ve been bought out by RIM and appears will be bundled in the core OS as part of BlackBerry 6.
Dude…you need to load some games! All work and no fun makes Robb a dull boy.

    Rod,

Yeah, I heard that podcast where the chair broke, that was hilarious.

I agree with with Shawn about the bolt browser. Its the best BB brower, at this time, in my opinion. I have made it my default browser. I have Opera mini 5 as well, but i rarely use that.

And I agree with DavidB on Viigo as well. Its a great rss reader.

Another cool free app, is the weather channel app.

I think you’re missing a few for the list to be the “Top 10 Ever Created”

BB Messenger – Since it doesn’t come preinstalled
Some kind of weather app – WeatherBug works well for me
Some kind of music app – Pandora rocks my socks
And maybe a 3rd party browser. – I’ve been digging Opera.

I would argue that two twitter clients are redundant and if you need both one or the other was designed poorly.

I would replace one with Bolt or perhaps Pandora
